I don't share the opinion that it's of primary importance that the captain of the #habs speak french, and this makes me a bigot?

- EricEngels

Me neither but the way you look "de haut" at people who care and poop on them make you a small person. Déçu, très déçu.

The captain will spout the typical clichés to the media so who cares about that part. The captain will be decided by who has the room, end of story. Tabarnac

There's a difference between not sharing an opinion and puking in your mouth.

I mean, we're volleying back and forth here. You're saying I don't understand, but I really do. I get it. People say "if they just made the extra effort to relate by learning a few words"... but then they do, and it goes to the next step.

I hear a more rationale outline in this latest comment you just posted, but it contradicts your original comment.

French Canadians should feel the same way everyone does about the CH... that they belong to all Canadiens fans. That their success is the only thing that matter. That the captain speak to them in French, English or Japanese should be beyond irrelevant.

- EricEngels

I couldn't care less about the captain not speaking French.

Reality is that it will always be important to these fans.

my thoughts on being a born and raised Quebecker, and being a resident here:
You're at a distinct disadvantage to not learn both French and English. Those who outright refuse to interact with people in either language are the epitome of ignorant.

When I walk into a retail store, or I meet somebody random, I address them in French if they're French, and they often respond in English in recognition of my first language. This is called tolerance.

When I call Hydro and they refuse to speak to me--their client in English--even though I'm perfectly fluent in French, it bothers me. Especially when I answer in English and they understand exactly what I'm saying.

I'm in no way, shape or form opposed to the French Canadian culture and preserving the things that have historically made Quebec unique. I have lived here my whole life.

The Canadiens belong to us all. And as residents here, those of them that truly feel like Montrealers will go the extra mile to learn a bit of French, and they'll immerse themselves in the culture as much as they wish to. But to expect that they do that for yours or someone else's satisfaction is wrong, in my opinion. It's not a part of their job description, nor should it be.
