I really get this point of view, but does the captain really have to be the fall guy? I haven't experienced that in my eight years covering the team. We talked the Gionta and Koivu the same way we talked to everyone else. Ask the same questions of them as everyone else.
Now, what certain people did to Koivu on the whole french thing over the years was a bloody disgrace, but those clowns are no longer really relevant or covering the team. And that whole thing has kinda gone to bed. The Canadiens have handled it better too. - EricEngels
You think Markov will be embracing you all with open arms when the team goes through a slump and you want some words from the team captain? |

because he yaps too much, he's a target for the other teams, and in my opinion, a captain should not be someone you rely on for offence production. That's why I really liked a guy like Guy Carbonneau as captain. He was an important part of the team, but he wasn't the guy you would expect to fill the net. - stinger67
Carbo was a renowned yapper, both to opposing players, and officials as well. |

So no Crosby? What about Gretzky and Lemieux back in the day?
I get what you're trying to say, it DOESN'T HAVE to be the best player/scorer on the team... but to say that he should NOT be someone you rely on for offence is a bit misguided.
But I would agree that a guy who's all offence all the time (say like Ovechkin) might not be the best choice (yes, I know Lemieux was a bit like that...cherry picking and all...but it was a different era). |

yep.
Gainey was a quiet leader. Chelios more like PK though he was voted in. |

Yeah, maybe I'm wrong. I just don't see it with PK, at least not yet.
I wonder if management will decide or if they will let the players vote... |

I don't think you are necessarily wrong, I just wanted to clarify that if it's the right type of player, he can also be counted on for offence... Like Toews, Crosby, Getzlaf, etc...
I'd prefer that, both as a fan, or if I were a player. |

I think he'll do it the way he always has-- with wry sarcasm. He's pretty good at deflecting criticism, and the media lets him get away with it, mostly because it's hard to get something different out of him. But so what if the media doesn't love it? His teammates love it. |

I just hope they don't decide to go a season without a captain...if it's the case we'll hear about it all season. |

I don't understand why Gallagher continues to get brought up.
Why? Because he crashes the net? |

I hope it's PK. I think it's the only way they'd be consistent with what they've done so far, and the backlash will be awesome. |

If they're to go with a youth shift, give the C to one of them. PK'll be the C for 10 years, Markov for 2-3 tops. |

OH yeah... because speaking a minimum key phrases in French when being the Captain of the Montreal Canadiens is so hard...
The real disgrace was Having a player/Captain not being able to say Bonjour and Merci after living in this city after all these years.
It's called having a minimum of respect for the fans. |
