0000000000000000000000000 CLUUUUEEEE !!!
Id want Leddy for Matt Martin and whatever .
Id guess that Leddy for a draft pick , 2nd round or better might be the final deal . Mostly since Leddy is not used enoug on Qs roster , Leddy has the highest upside and Im guessing other teams would want him over Oduya , especially teams on the upswing . Rebuilding teams may not want an older Oduya .
I guess Leddy gets moved. - mrpaulish

This is ideal but who would ever give up anything for those 2 ?
Stevie Rain made a great point about Versteeg . Basically no trade value but the $ isnt bad and just incase he is good at 2.2 M would be great . - mrpaulish
Thanks, and you are right.
We can't just dump our crap and assume some team will take it. Versteeg was still feeling the effects of his knee last year. A whole offseason with the Hawks medical and strength team could pay HUGE dividends and could be a steal for Bowman in the next 2 years.
Rozsival showed a Handzus type flame out. Like Handzus, thank him for what he did here, but move on.......you'd have to OVER PAY to get somebody to take him.

Sharp is 32, Smith has tremendous value at $1.8 per for the next three seasons and the Sens love Lazar. Combine that with the fact you think they'll throw in an additional 1st round pick? Hey, I'd love it but tough to see happening. - acmidd28
The key word is value. Sharp's value at his age and cap hit is notably lower than both Lazar and Smith. Not to mention low cost cap certainty for each guy for three more seasons. Almost like the Sens would want the #1 pick going the other way. |

Well the thing is his career track record is 40-50 pts a season, which if he did again, would be great at $2.2 mil but the question is can he do that with his knee this year and in the bottom 6 with guys like shaw and bickell? |

Nyquist franzen and kindle are three players the hawks don't need
We have plenty of those types already
We need size and physicality depth, especially at center
Not an old, poor man's hossa, another small offensive winger, and a pmd who hasn't figured it out yet - FourFeathers773

Before this turns into a pipe dream of us trading Versteeg or Rozsival and getting back some highly coveted prospect or draft pick.....and then wiz's head explodes, lets take a step back.
1 TT is still showing on cap geek's roster. I dont' see him starting the year in the NHL unless he absolutely tears up the preseason. So you can deduct his 800K right away and now you have a cap deficit of around 1.4 and change.
2. Outside of TT, you have 3 highly HYPED guys that all of the sudden the media has hitched their wagons to. Cledening vs Johns vs Dahlbeck. That isn't by coincidence. I heard on the hawks post game radio show after game 7, Dahlbeck's name come up UNPROVOKED which tells me a D man is 99.9% going, unless Stan Bow is blown away for an offer on Sharp or Bickell.
3. As much as the Jay Zawaski's of the world want to drive Versteeg to the airport, at 2.2 million for the next 2 years, he has value in a cap world and a roster stacked with HIGH dollars on high end players. He's a low risk, high reward, and they aren't going to move him. Period.
4. Rozsival is possible as moving him, gets you 800K below the cap with a 22 man roster, which contrary to what some may want to believe, is VERY possible considering they may know full well this is their last push for a cup with the current core. May take sweetening that pot with Rozsival and prospect that many think is coveted but the Hawks are sour on.
So out of all that....you get down to where we were 2 months ago.....Oduya vs Leddy. I would venture to guess the Hawks have had talks with Oduya's agent about what # JO wants on his next deal and if he's willing to be a team guy and leave $$ on the table for a chance to win. If he is....then LEddy will be dealt. Q doesn't seem to be a fan of Leddy, and can this team really afford to pay a #5 d man over 3+ million starting in 2015-16? I don't think they can.
Leddy out east for a prospect during camp as LONG as Dahlbeck or Cledening or Johns all don't bomb, and the winner of the 3 man competition, if there is even a competition, will be the Hawks 6/7 d man along side the bag of pucks known as Rundblad. - SteveRain
The most valuable trade piece could very well be Leddy from the standpoint teams still believe he has upside and his next contract won't break the bank.
Oduya being dumped leaves the team more exposed.
It has taken Oduya a long time but he has proven to be at least a top 3 dman on almost every team. That will mean whoever acquires him would be looking for a 1 season stop gap or realize his next contract is going to include a big raise.
In many ways Leddy will be easier to trade.
Whoever does go needs to be replaced by little if any money so that is a factor.
Q stirs the drink here, not anyone else in the Front Office. Leddy disappears in the playoffs because the head coach doesn't think he can handle the forecheck of the best teams. Unless that thinking has changed and Leddy is going to be elevated to a top 4 spot...I would trade him now while many believe he can still become a top 4 dman and he has decent trade value.

No one is going to do anything helpful to the Hawks. Doing the 19 and 88 deals BEFORE clearing the cap overage was a huge strategic mistake. Splash over strategy now puts Stanley and company in a position of no leverage to make deals.
No one wants Roszival or Versteeg, and it will be difficult to take any kind of contracts back in exchange for Leddy or Oduya.
The only real options the FO has now involve giving guys away purely to get under the cap. |

Because it shows their hand and exposes their predicament longer term. If you think this year is tough wait until the year after.

Agreed, and that is why I think it will be Leddy and you may even see an Oduya extension long before a guy like Kruger.
Bottom 6 guys can be replaced. Top 6 and top 4 d men are hard to come by.

Moving Roszival alone isn't enough to clear the cap problem, and even if it was I doubt you would see a 22 man roster. I can't see anyone giving up even a 7th for Versteeg, and again it wouldn't be enough on its own.
I think JJ has it right - Oduya makes the most sense in terms of cap value, especially since I think they will fight tooth and nail not to have to move Sharp. I think Calgary could be a good landing spot, or even Edmonton if they are so inclined. Who gets the roster spot to replace him, though? Do they try to bring back Brookbank on the cheap (can't be much more than $1M)? Do they promote Clendening or Dahlbeck? - bluenatic411
Dealing Rozival and going with a roster of 22 gives Stan about $875,000 to sign a 7th defenseman. |

I have no problem with 19/88 deals. They left money on the table, and the Hawks had to get those done NOW and not wait. That would have been a major distraction the longer that played out.
It's a chain of events......you can blame over payment to a lot of other guys on this team just as much as 19/88.
A guy like Bryan Bickell better bring it more often then he did last year, or else he's the 1st name I'm shopping come next summer if I am Stanley Bowman. Can't afford to keep the Robert Horry of hockey around on a cap strapped team. |

Good point, I figured thats what you were getting at. I still think it was wise they got it done. Kind of a formality, no? Most teams had an idea of what these guys would come in at. It was likely obvious other teams knew the Hawks were not only willing, but very eager to get it done ASAP. |

Yeah, people really need to take TT off the roster and realize it's only 1.4 and change and not over 2.2. Not unless TT goes off the charts in the preseason OR an injury occurs OR somebody blows Bowman's doors off for a rostered forward. Otherwise, the signing of Richards has TT destined for Rockford. |

Neither do I. The problem was the public nature of the deals combined with the timing. I am sure there was a way to keep the deals on the DL. I feel like McD needed something to create buzz at the convention and that trumped what was smarter to do. Totally agree on Bickell. Here is to hoping he rebounds from the injury bug and shows his value. |

No, but they will want pieces of our championship team. In 2010 Stan was able to unload several players even though the league knew he had to. If Leddy is available there will be a lineup of GMs willing to pay a fair price, same for Oduya.
I wouldn't doubt there are teams that would take Rozsival. A veteran defenseman with 1 year left one his contract, a salary of $1.75 million but cap hit of $2.2 million. There are teams out there that need help on defesnse - Detroit, Calgary, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Florida. |

Don't forget - until July 1, they thought they had $2MM more to spend - which is just about what they're not over.
Had to get Toews and Kane signed quickly - when they could - any delaying could have destroyed a delicate balance.
And forget the "no leverage" business - it's not as good as if they didn't HAVE to make a deal or two, but the talent they have to move does have good value, and they should be able to get back something more than just cap space for Oduya, Leddy, Sharp, Bickell, if not Versteeg and/or Roszival |
