just dont think Ramage is enough, have to think what they could get for him as a deadline deal sort of trade.

They would rather pawn off Versteeg and Rozi for a 7th round draft pick us giving away Oduya on the cheap

- DDM-Coga

What team would do that though?

Calgary is a team that could, but IMO the cost for that includes either a top prospect or a 1st rounder from Chicago.

No team actually would, but just more exaggerating the fact if they were getting that desperate to get under the cap, I can see moving them out on the cheap vs Oduya on the cheap.

But thats the issue, they need to move more than Versteeg, so losing 2 players weakens their team more vs 1 in oduya.

Both Boston and Hawks are going to be interesting to watch the next few weeks. Something has to give eventually.

who do you give up though? Probably a decent prospect since they cant take back any cap. I woudl imagine it would be a d prospect, probably not Wotherspoon, whats that Ramage like? Think him and a 2nd is worth it?
- DDM-Coga

Screw that! CHI is in cap hell. Any trade with them should include more coming back our way. I would consider taking on Versteeg as well but i may want Rundblad on top of that.

Why add the 2nd? I think he's going to 33 this year as well.

I think they need to shed 3m in any combination of players. 23 guys signed right now
They would probably be happy to give you Runblad, a lot of the guys in that thread are not really high on him, but hes cheap so they need to keep him.

Versteeg, Oduya, Rozsival have to be the only guys that should be on the move. If they move Sharp I think they are making a big mistake but I wont complain as division rivals

I agree, but like Tand said if we do take 2 of the said 3 off their hands maybe we can pry a 1st out of them. We could offer Ramage and Hanowski... Or something along those lines.

Leddy is worth trying to pry out of them, I think he is a decent 2nd pairing guy in the making. Young and his game will clean up over time.

You guys have the advantage of retaining salary in players to make it even more appealing to the hawks. Lets say you retained 50% of Russells cap hit, would they move Leddy, Versteeg (just for the cap dump) and some promising picks/prospects as well for retaining and taking versteeg of their hands

That would give the hawks with 1.3m in cap space with a 22 man roster

That move would get Chicago 2 mil under the cap without sacrificing Sharp, which I think would be a big win.

Yeah, I demoted Hanowski, moved Saad over to the right side and kept Teuvo up on the big squad. Voila! 2 mil in space.

I wouldn't want to give Russell up. I see Leddy as a good partner for Russell rather than as his replacement. If I'm moving a current roster d-man it's either Smid or Wideman, and even with retained salary both of those guys are likely too expensive for the Hawks, unless we're taking Roszi too.

Leddy + Versteeg + Hayes (conditional 2nd if he doesn't sign) for Hanowski/Agostino + Russell at 50%?

I love Russell but I think Leddy's game translates well to having a partner like Wotherspoon or Sieloff. He can be more of an offensive minded guy while those two are the defensive ones.

Leddy does have those good offensive instincts, so I can see where you're coming from... if Wotherspoon proves to be ready in camp and pre-season then that would be awesome, but I'm worried they'd play him with Smid or Engelland and their complete lack of ability with the puck scares me...

Hawks get a 2nd rounder if he doesnt sign with them either way, so if anyone is trading for his rights it has to be more than the 54th pick in the draft.

Thats why I think teams are jsut going to hold off until the 15th. No one will trade a 1st or ealy 2nd for him.

Smid makes more sense but just to get him to fit under their cap situation its a tougher more comlicated deal to make, but I agree youw ould rather keep Russell but he had the cap hit to make a deal for Leddy work

yeah its Compensation pick if you dont sign your RFA after 3 years from what they were drafted, 1 round later from the pick he was initially selected. I dont know all the criteria of what picks are eligable for Compensation if they remain unsigned, but I just read that about Hayes in the Hockey News last week

So can you talk to him and his agent before hand? I assume he has an agent now he is out of college.

Anyway if the flames sign him they should trade him back to the Hawks for Leddy. Just because it is super entertaining to see those types of things happen.

Just like how the oilers could of got purcell for free and keep Gagne. Unless they actually really wanted to get rid of him. Which he is still young at 24.

I don't think you can, he isn't available to be offer sheeted so he is property of the Hawks till the 15th. Talking earlier would probably come with tampering fines and losing of draft picks.

Cant see the Hawks re-acquiring Hayes at any costs if he walks. There doesn't seem to be able love b/w the 2 according to the reports I read about the situation. But getting a guy like Hayes into the fold is like finding free money, you can now move another one of your decent forward prospects for a Dman and not create a hole in the depth charts

I still have him going to the Bruins, and then outside teams that I keep on seeing on popping up are Pens, Avs, Panthers and Flames (last 2 were just speculation piece by the hockey news based on what everyone else knows, playing with his brother or his buddy Johnny Hockey could be appealing to him)
