Clarke & Lindros' parents were the douches. There's plenty of blame on both sides in that one.

A band debate is largely opinion, I dislike Nickelback because they are formulaic, and most of their songs simply sound too much alike. The lyrics are simplistic and unwitty

- Jsaquella

There was no winner in that Clarke/Lindros mess. I'm guessing with the benefit of hindsight, both sides would probably have acted differently.

If Schenn plays like he did during the lockout season, or how he did against the Rags in the playoffs, that deal doesn't matter to me.

Schenn can do this, man. He can do this -- he did it for all but four or five games in the lockout season.

It's in there. The Flyers have to get it out of him! From Game 1 through Game 82, and the playoffs -- they've got to get Lockout Luke Schenn out of him!

- AllInForFlyers

He's still only 24 years old. He still has time to learn and improve. People forget he's been in the league since he was drafted. People also forget he was on some very dreadful Maple Leafs teams where they put him in situations that he might not have been ready for. When you're in a tough situation like that, of course your confidence is going to take a hit, and it's probably thrown off the whole maturation process too.

Are you guys seriously still talking about this on a brand new blog?

Clarke vs. Lindros, who was the douche of that situation? Maybe we could ask Dave Babych for the answer. The Recchi hatred is stupid.

I don't expect Nickelback to get into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and I'm not in love with them but they're clearly a talented band. To me, it's like someone one day said "Hey, I hate Nickolback" and then others followed because it sounds cool to say so. Using my own head and my own thinking, I think Van Halen is a horrid band but to each their own.

and you are seriously asking this question? how long have you been here? the same poop gets talked about for years in this (frank)ing place. it's a carryover from last night. jeeez. and i couldn't give a flying (frank) about any of the 3 issues.

My buddy Akeson got knocked down pretty far too.

Fact is, he might end up on the opening night roster.

- johndewar

6.0B... what was his rating before, 7.0C or D? Upside got knocked down a peg, but probability of success got a boost. I can live w/ that.

I think if the Flyers get a better commitment from the forwards the defense will be fine. Defenses can look bad when forwards don't commit to a backcheck. If the forwards commit to the team d i think the defense they have will be fine. Yes they could always use an upgrade but I think if they play the system Berube is wanting then things could work out. Maybe instead of winning games 6-5 they look to win games 3-1. They could always use upgrades in speed and skill. I am not saying they are a perfect team but with a commitment to team d and the system maybe things work a little better this year.

Yup, at least Van Halen has an interesting guitarist to listen to.

I'm biased as a huge Van Halen fan. But I just dislike the cookie cutter bands. Creed & Nickelback, are just the descendants of Poison & Warrant

You're ignoring the fact that Mason played for the most penalized team in the league, and one that was prone to having games where the defense fell apart entirely.
- Feanor

Mason was bad in December and January. Any stretch of below .900 save percentage at the NHL level is on the goalie. I get the defense was bad but it's going to be just as bad this year.

I like Mason and think he has been great for the Flyers. I think he could even be better down the road. But IMO he hasn't been consistent enough to be considered elite, which Belfour was for a large portion if his hall of fame career.

Other bands I simply find more diverse & entertaining, and I listen to all kinds of music, from rock to jazz, from rap to classical

- Jsaquella

the difference is that Nickelback unapologetically admits that they studied popular music and did what they could to insert all the things that hits had in common into their songs. It's a very carefully orchestrated kind of genereic.

I know I've been "Best Foot Forward" today, but I just choose to believe, with Timonen being out, that Berube has to understand that the Flyers have to pull these younger defensemen through.

I get it: Gus was a flawed player, and Meszaros was a shell of what he was in 2010.

But Berube's got to understand that this team, this franchise, doesn't have the luxury of discarding defensemen. He's got to understand that Luke Schenn can be a useful player at worst, a low-end impact player at best, and not bury this guy.

I like a lot of what Berube did last year, and the stuff I didn't like is just me second-guessing. They clearly played winning hockey under him, and he deserves credit for that.

But he's got to understand that getting whatever young defensemen there are on the roster to maximize their potential is the only thing that matters other than winning hockey games. Whether it's Schenn, or Ghost, or Alt, or Hagg or Morin or whoever else when they arrive, it's Chief's responsibility to maximize these guys.

He's gotta know that. We can't get any defensemen any other way without gutting the roster.

I don't fully understanding Wyshynski's point of going to the KHL being "titanically stupid".

It may not be what I would do, but making big tax free money sounds (frank)ing awesome.
