Sorry, then.

I think the guy has a chance to really be something.

As I do as well.

He put up good numbers on a Washington team that wasn't known for great defensive play.

Drink more.

Stay away from Whisky though as that will only make you madder at the world.

Disagree. This will make you happy for the day you were born, and happier still for the day you found it.

Let him and Enroth split a year - both stay healthy - while the kids down in Rochester get ready for the show, then let them turn into a lockdown.

50/32 Nevirth/Enroth.

Plan a schedule and stick to it.

I see no reason they don't go 32-38-12.

Somewhere in that 4-7 range in the draft order.

point taken...

I like the move...if the sabres could've given up a couple of #9-overall picks for a top-2 pick, would you scoff at it?

*shrugs* that's the way I look at it

Maybe this is just how I see it but......

It seems in the NFL there are more blah players that get picked in the top 10 than in the NHL.

Watkins was rated the best offensive player in the draft. He's anything but ordinary.

Seriously, I'd take him over the Donte Whitner and Leodis McKelvin's of the world anyday.

They are both signed through the end of this year. Neuvirth is at $2.6Mill I'd extend him now for three at $3Mill per.

I didn't say anything to dispute that.

the odds of getting a "blah player" with a #9 overall are greater than it would be with a top-4...and Watkins was considered by many to be one of the top two players in the draft

I know you didn't. Just piggybacking off the topic.

I think he's that "impact player" that is worth 2 of the McKelvin/Whitner/Maybin/Gilmores of the world

Different ballgame. In the NHL you draft to develop a player long term. In the NHL you draft to win now. The clock starts ticking year #1 on that rookie contract.

The age gap is the issue.

NHL you're drafting 18yr olds

NFL you're drafting 21 year olds and up.

Think Brandon Weeden, he was 29 by the midway point of his rookie season.

I think that's half true. It's totally different from the NHL you are right, but I don't think anyone should expect Watkins to catch 80 balls for 1300 yards his rookie year. 2nd year is where NFL players start to become impact players.

Unless you have the once in a decade type talent like Andrew Luck or RG3

Who wouldn't? He a superior football player. But he came at a price. We'd all drive a Mercedes too for its superior reliability and handling, but there is an associated cost.

edit: Which is true in every sport for its highest drafted players. The Sabres were smart enough to realize there 2 ways to get that guy. Overpay or suck for a year. They chose the latter.

Again, I don't mean to argue this with you, my frustration is with the Bills, but its their job to 'hit their pick'. They are so inept at what they do they had to cash in 2 to get 1. Plus, its a 4 year contract. If they go 6-10 as you say(and they likely will), that's one year wasted. No first to draft a QB next year, that's 2 wasted. Third year if we're lucky we'll have a stud rookie(which will still likely suck as they most do), that's 3 wasted and by year 4 we might be competitive and by then Sammy and his agent are already thinking about the open market and getting the Buck out of Fuffalo. 2 wasted first rounders.

Sorry to be Debbie downer.

Here's a little optimism to add to your day. Take a look at the bust rate of picks around pick 10 in the past 15 years, then look at the 1st round busts the Bills had in the past 15 years.

99 - 23rd Overall, Antoine Winfield (+)
00 - 26th Overall, Erik Flowers (-)
01 - 21st Overall, Nate Clements (+)
02 - 4th Overall, Mike Williams (-)
03 - 23rd Overall, Willis McGahee (+)
04 - 13th Overall, Lee Evans (+), 22nd Overall, JP Losman (-)
05 - None
06 - 8th Overall, Donte Whitner (+), 26th Overall, John McCargo (-)
07 - 12th Overall, Marshawn Lynch (+)
08 - 11th Overall, Leodis McKelvin (+)
09 - 11th Overall, Aaron Maybin (-), 28th Overall, Eric Wood (+)
10 - 9th Overall, C.J. Spiller (+)
11 - 3rd Overall, Marcell Dareus (+)
12 - 10th Overall, Stephon Gilmore (+)
13 - 16th Overall, EJ Manuel (?)
14 - 4th Overall, Sammy Watkins (probably ++)

12 Successes to a certain degree, 5 busts in 15 years, which makes a 71% success rate, believe it or not. Not bad.

Using an analysis performed by a Browns blogger, there's a 49.1% bust rate. http://www.clevelandfrown...nd-round-nfl-draft-picks/

Bills are above the average!

Which is fabulous, and again I hate to be "that guy", but with the players they did hit on the picks, they mismanaged their asset afterwards anyway. That's why we suck.

Done with football.

Feeling great about the Sabres future.
