It would probably be Leddy and a pick or prospect for Nielsen. - tredbrta

Saad plus a 1st rounder? I assume you are trolling over being offended by Leddy for Nielsen straight up. If so, you need to calm down.
Saad plus a 1st rounder would get us Griffin. Saad is 21 and looks better than any young forward in your system or on your roster.
I could see Leddy and a prospect for Nielsen or maybe Leddy for Martin but I keep hearing Martin will not be moved. That deal (martin for Leddy) would favor the Isles. Leddy is still very young and he has dominant possession stretches - his minutes are protected by Q and he has not show much in the playoffs but how many 18-21 year old d men stand out in the playoffs? If Leddy was coming out of college or the minors he would be one of the d prospects in the game due to his speed. |

Yes but I think he's a 6-7 defenseman and will suit up if Visnovsky gets hurt or can't play. Brennan will get every chance to be in the NHL next year - kcNYI
sabres should have tried him on the wing before they let him go |

Regarding Phaneuf:
From what I understand, the best offer the Leafs got at the draft was two 2nd rounders for him, and no retained salary. Leaf management wants more obviously, but how much more? |

Yawn.
How can you figure how I am valuing Nielsen when I did not even indicate what round pick or prospect? Leddy and a 1st rounder for a 30 year old center? THAT would be overvaluing Nielsen.
I could see Leddy and a 2nd or 3rd just because the Hawks need space. They could also substitute an older forward prospect for the pick and the Isles should be happy.
Doubt it happens. Once it makes it up here the chances are 99-1 against it. Though it is always interesting to see how cellar dwellers feel that 2nd/3rd line players on their last or next to last contract should bring back Lindros level packages. I am a fan of the Isles and like Nielsen as a player but let's find reality. |

At that cap hit TOO MUCH more. That said, injuries happen and contending teams may have greater need later in the year. Maybe it ends up working out. |

No you didnt but Im pretty sure you weren't referring to a first or a top end prospect bcs you would have stated it as such. The isles should be "happy" for a mediocre at best defenseman and an older forward prospect? Youre out to lunch. That trade would never happen. Once again youre undervaluing nielsen. The guys is one of the best two way centers in the game. Its going to cost more than that. |

Saad looks better than any young forward or prospect in our system? Do you have any clue how stupid and off base of a comparison this ?

STUPID! Saad + a 1 for Neilsen?
The reason we did not get Ryan Kesler is because of our unwillingness to trade Saad.
So we sure as hell aren't going to send him for Neilsen...adding a first round pick just makes such a trade Onion level stuff. |

Phaneuf for Bailey!!! - jimmc7722
Although most people would be focused on Reinhart or Strome, I think Bailey has considerable underutilized upside. His possession numbers are strong, he has a good hockey mind, can play all forward positions, and is defensively savvy. He hasn't racked up huge numbers, but I think over the next four years he will give you better value for his contract than Grabo or Kulemin will.
Throw in Donovan and you have yourself a deal.

I don't want to trade phaneuf if we aren't going to get full value for him. It would leave a big hole if we traded him. I don't want to put so much pressure on Rielly and Gardiner just yet.Id rather wait for the right deal there is no rush |

The longer we wait the more ridiculous contracts teams will give players. His contract will look better an better as time goes on. |

More like Oduya + if anything but knowing the Isles it might have to be Hammer which Hawks wont move, that's why I mentioned a trade wont happen.
Also don't under value what Frans has done plus has 2 more years of low salary. |

We're ok with the cap this year, so there's no rush. From an arbitrage standpoint though, I think that offer I threw out favors the Leafs in the long run. If they want to be competitive going forward, they need to maximize every cap dollar spent.

I actually at this part. Sound advice coming from a fan of a team that will be lucky to even get 25 wins. - GardinerExpress
Give it a rest, will ya? Just because a guy cheers for a losing team doesn't mean he should sit quietly and not participate in discussion. If it were the case we wouldn't have to read your silly comments day in day out. |

Garth Snow had a great offseason for us. Most of the non-HockeyBuzz NYI fans (the ones who can actually argue a point and now blow up over the internet) think Garth had an excellent summer and is a top 4 defenseman away from having a career summer for this team.
He addressed and added legitimate goaltending with Halak and Johnson
Solidified our top-9 by adding Grabovski and Kulemin
Increased competition at camp this fall by 10-fold...now Bailey, Grabner, and some of our youth realize they aren't shoe-ins for positions this year...they have to PROVE THEIR WORTH with the depth we have.
The only short-fall for Garth was addressing our defense. There still 2.5 months left for him to make a move and we have 26 players under 1-way contracts...something will happen during training camp/pre-season...
Lets relax on the NYI for the rest of the summer Ek...nothing will happen until September/October with them. - kcNYI
I think nyi are the surprise team in the east. Playoffs for sure.

I don't think we need Bailey right now. If we added one of our forwards and took bailey in some sort of package deal it would make sense. |

Not legit yet, I think a bubble team at best. If the isles can add 1 NHL 3-5 Dman then I will say yes on playoffs, but there is still some time left.... |

Weve had this debate. I got laughed at for saying theyll finish ahead of the leafs. Time will tell. My $ is on nyi making it and being a bi*tch to play against in the playoffs. |
