It would depend on what the asking price will be, I say is the difference. We all know Sharp is a valuable player and would look great in an islander uniform but its at what cost??? - Ur Not Me
Would a package of bailey, grabner, donavan or mayfield and a pick maybe a 2nd or 3rd rounder
for Leddy and sharp.... to much/ not enough |

Not sure about the price, but Sharp would make the Isles a better team for the next 2-3 years. What's the issue with Sharp in an Islanders uniform? - Jeropotato
He is a fine player.. we dont need him. We need help on D.
We didnt need Vanek.. we needed D help
we dont need sharp.. we need D help.
I would rather not trade assets to up grade a position when those assets should be used to fix an area that needs major help.

I can see how he isn't a pressing need....but he upgrades your top 6 and sorry, but the Islanders don't have an elite top 6. I get the prioritizing but I don't understand the rejection of a player that makes the team better, unless it's a matter of cap space or limited tradable assets. Besides...where you gonna find a top 4 D right now? The only ones rumoured that I know of are Nick Leddy , Dion Phaneuf, Jeff Petry and maybe Alex Edler. |

And the fans rejected all of those guys too. For a bottom 5 team the Isles sure don't seem to need any players. |

Its an interesting proposal for both sides. Most might say not enough and few might say to much. But bc the Hawks are against the cap & Bailey + Grabner being part of this offer doesn't help there cap issue bc its almost a similar salary swap give or take a few million. The sweetener is 1 of the Dmen + pick.
I wouldn't make this trade w/Leddy being included bc the isles have Leddy type Dmen on roster & in pipeline, isles need more of a defensive type player instead.
But if I had to give my opinion, to me a fair offer.

I agree with NYI. They should focus on what they need and not what they want. That should always be a #1 rule in hockey. Apparently, our Leafs GMs have figured since Sundin's departure that we've wanted a #1 center. They fail to realise, that to contend, you NEED a #1 center. That is all. |

Would have to depend on what the asking price is? With the Isles getting more depth at the F position and completely upgrading the G position, as a unit, they somewhat improved defensively without actually adding a Dman. Now I'm not saying they don't need 1, we surely do but at what price?
Towards the end of last year our D played a little better in the last 15 or so games w/the subtraction of some and the addition of some new blood. By adding defensive F in FA's has also helped. |

Sounds to me like the Isles are set , then. That's good, because I always sorta liked the Isles, and I picked them a few weeks back to make the playoffs. |

We dont need to trade assets for something we already have... we have a player that can fill that role on the top line just fine, is he as good as Sharp? no.. but in time he can be. The cost to upgrade a position that does not need upgrading is too damn much. Considering we need those assets for real problem areas.

So, and forgive me if I come across as a troll, because that is not my intention, who do think the Isles should pursue of the list of rumoured D-Men? I'm sure you like to hit a home run in trade but what would you realistically offer up and for whom in order to address your needs on D? I hope you can offer up something that interests the seller. |

Not to mention, Why are Hawk fans so gung ho on moving Sharp?? Every blog I have been a part of when its spoken about acquiring one of their defensemen they always want to trade us Sharp. We dont need Sharp...
We walk into the Chicago Blackhawk garage looking for a new set of tires because the ones we have are a bit warn, the valve stems are cracking, and three of them have slow leaks.
They are excited about selling us a tune up and new headlights!!
The car runs fine, the lights work well, all we need are 4 new tires.
"But the engine could run SO much better"
But it runs, runs well... the tires on the other hand are going to cause us fits.

I personally think that come camp time, A lot more D-men are going to become available, through wavers & salary dumps.. granted that's a long shot as to where were going to get a top 4, but it can bring back better a d-men then we have.
I would love Leddy or Oduya but the hawks cant take back payroll... so what are they realistically looking for in picks and low cost prospects? I would love to have Dion, but I wouldn't trade the store for him but I think a deal could be worked out, we have a surplus of forwards. We could ship out Bailey/Martin/ and a prospect for him.. that would save the leafs around 3 million.

That is also if the leafs are looking to free up salary.. if they take some back.. Martin could become Grabner very easy.

Not to me, the isles are a bubble team w/the new additions. If isles can add a legit NHL dman, then I'll say yes to the playoffs w/out any major injuries of course. |

Looks like the Oilers are probably gonna dangle Petry for a short term or medium quality 2/3 C. I hate to trade Petry because he's our best D man, but the writing is on the wall with our prospects coming up and Mac T's apparent love for Justin Schultz. |

Most Hawks fans are not SUPER eager to trade Sharp, the reality of the situation is that once Toews and Kane's contract extensions kick in, we won't be able to keep all of our star forwards, Hossa is untradeable because of his contract (and frankly, I don't want to see him traded), Keith will never be traded, Hammer has one of the best contracts in the NHL, Seabrook won't be traded, so now you have Sharp. Saad/Teravainen are basically being groomed to replace Sharp's production going forward, so he's expendable. A lot will depend on how much the cap will go up in the next few years, but if it were possible, I'd love to keep Sharp, he's a leader, scores clutch goals, and is generally very consistent. I realize that if the cap doesn't go up much next year, given how the team is constructed, Sharp is probably the one that can be replaced without the team losing too much. Just my take. |
