It will be great to see if Nassib's career outshines EJ's career. What will that say about Marrone if it actually happens?
- RynoBull

Not sure Marrone is a "QB maker"

But on the other hand did anyone else see Blaine Gabbert last night holy sheez is he bad. HEs the kinda guy who would make Jerry Rice look bad

So, to be honest - though I work with statistics in part for a living, NHL stats don't interest me in the slightest. It's just because of how my brain works and the role that things like Hockey play in it.

I can work the numbers, there are times when I even enjoy it - but it's something I make myself do for work. My left brain works for me.

But it's my right brain I turn to when I'm trying to kick back and relax, and this is what Hockey helps me do. My right brain is there for my enjoyment.

So I think it's as simple as this - I prefer to think of hockey as a narrative, in terms of characters and themes - villains and heroes and strife and conquest. It's because the other 'things i think about when i'm not thinking about work' follow the same pattern - i read books, i play video games that tend to have complicated story arcs, I drink beer brewed by monks who developed their recipe as a tonic against the bubonic plague... whatever.

I realize the role analytics must play in building a successful NHL team in this day and age, but my brain rejects the effort to find a place in my left brain for something my right brain cherishes so much. And since I'm not a GM, this works for me. I credit people who (accurately) throw around Coris and Fenwick analyses, but within the space between my own two ears, I only give it as much consideration as "this guy helps drive possession" - which is an important element to success in a more narrative sense.

Thanks for letting me bore you today,
nfph.

Big +1 to this. I think the magic stats are fine, and anybody who's sincerely trying to make odds and ends of the game should be mindful of them, but I'm just a fan. I really don't care that much about WOWY zowy stats and Adjusted FenClose5v5% or whatever. Hockey is entertainment first for me, and I'm happy this way. Sort of. I'd be happier if my team won more.

What did the 1st rounders do for us the last 15 years?

If Sammy is a star, I'll take him over the Aaron Maybins and Donte Whitner's of the world any day

- sbroads24

i'm assuming you'd make the trade of maybin (11th overall) and whitner (8th overall) for Watkins 94th overall)

which is essentially what whaley did this year

nothing...I doubt it will happen...that 73 yard bomb he completed was against a practice squad corner who is downright awful...it was like a practice session...just like when manuel completed that 90-yard bomb to Watkins

negative,

HE traded for the a position with a high bust rate for what will be a great QB class.

One thing ill give Whaley is he may take the best guy at position of need. But with guys like Maybin there were better DE in that draft

The bust rate thing no WR's is questionable, but you nailed it saying they forfeited their 1st in a year strong for QB's. And last year used their first on a QB in a year everyone knew was exceptionally weak.

It would be like a bottom feeder hockey team trading next years first with Mcdavid and Eichel coming up.

Personally I don't think Sammy will be a bust. That usually happens when they draft a guy based on height or 40 times.

I'd bet money he's no where near a bust. He's a legit #1 already.

Absolutely.

IMO there is way too much talent on this roster to bottom out and have a shot at a top QB anyways.

I hope im wrong but doesnt this feel quite similar to another Clemson All American. IMO id rather have kept the pick taken best player avilable and drafted an elite QB next year. My money is on Brett HUndley being a darn good NFL'er

If Sammy was a few inches taller id say easy star but hes not

Hey Steve Smith(formerly of Carolina) is 5' 9". Andre Reed is 6' 2". Watkins is 6' 1". I don't think size will hold him back.

I do not disagree. Although in the case of Steve Smith he has a ridiculous about of competitive fire in him. He was great no matter who was under center.

Jeez people calm down about ej .. There is so much hate for this kid I just don't get it.. No he did not have RG3 or luck rookie numbers ! But if you look at the numbers the kid had a pretty damn good rookie year !! So many people are acting like he is a vet that has no more upside! The kid is still growing and learning and is suffering though growing pains that 90% of young qbs go though

Steve Smith did? I think I remember him putting up some damn good numbers with some mediocre QB's

Andre Johnson is a future HOF'er with guys like David Carr and Matt Shaub throwing to him

it's possible there may be a great qb class next year...or there may be only a 2-3 elite and the rest along the lines of a tannehill, manuel, ponder, etc...

those two or three will be snagged well ahead of where the bills will be picking, which, imo, will be no higher than the #10 area...

therefore, essentially, the trade of a 9th and 11th for Watkins
