Dismiss my post all you want, but while a garbage team like Edmonton is at least on the right track to getting better, your garbage team (the worst in the league by far) is only getting worse. I hope you'll enjoy losing for at least the next five years!
- MrData

Who was Montreal's analytics guy when they were winning all those cups in the 60's and 70's?

It doesn't take some fancy analytics "genius" to figure out that Edmonton's problem was a lack of good, accountable veteran leadership. That organization had no one there to show these kids - you know, the one's that had the NHL experience rammed down their throats before some of them were ready - how to be professional hockey players.

I don't dismiss analytics completely, but don't be so quick to just dismiss the good, old fashioned hockey mind, either.

As soon as every NHL franchise has an analytics specialist working for them, the playing field is leveled and it becomes less relevant.

It's a useful tool. Nothing more, and I'm a fan of advanced numbers

its not a fair comparison because no team in the NHL had analytics guys in the 60s or 70s...now that some teams do IE kings, hawks, those teams are at an "advantage"

The Sabres have had an analytics guy for a few years. The point is that they are helpful, but not the end-all-be-all.

I've said it before:

If I could figure out a way to come up with a Fenwick/Corsi/Sabremetrics equivalent to the stock market, I'd probably never have to work again.

And there are plenty of teams that have analytics that blow, year after year.

There's no proof that it guarantees you anything.

LA, perhaps you could make a case for. But, in Chicago's case, they drafted high for a couple years and drafted top talent.

Well, if he's no good for the Pats - who have a proven eye for talent - then I say, Stay away.

If he looks good, I still think it would be Houston to trade for him.

I think analytics is a useful tool but it shouldn't be the end of be all especially because this is more of a free flowing team game. It's not like it's machines playing. People lose concentration, have drama at home, maybe didn't get a good night sleep, tried something different, found something that motivated them for a shift, bored of routine and seeing the same faces every year etc etc..

I'm pretty sure they have it figured out already... Dark Pools and ultra fast internet connections not available to the public.

My house is "math free zone".

I, unfortunately, passed that down to my 3 boys.

Ask me a hockey trivia question, though, and I'm all over it.

I call my brain a vault of useless information.

I'm all for giving EJ the year, but go out and sign Josh Freeman! We need some experience as a back up, Tuel and others are not the answer. Just looking what's out there, Freeman could fit the backup role.

I'd rather they sign rex grossman

I don't think that's the issue. Brady has stated he wants to play into his 40s. Mallett is already in his 4th season and has seen no real action. His rookie deal is probably close to being done. Trading him so they don't lose him for nothing is a smart move.
