There is a difference between playing nasty (Pronger) and deliberately trying to head hunt and end careers (Stevens). I can't remember Pronger ever coming across mid ice and launching his forearm or elbow directly at another player's head.

Stevens whole career was based around elbowing people in the head. Without that he would have been nothing special.

Many people around the league say the same thing about Pronger. I just think the "Intentially trying to injure people" thing is overexaggerated by Flyers fans due to the whole Lindros debacle. I'm not the head of the Stevens fan club or anything I just don't think he's as big a scum as everyone says. Just my opinion

Besides maybe Pronger, I can't think of a defenseman in the past twent-five years whose mere presence on the ice made opposing players intimidated to even go up the middle or into corners.

I think Pronger was the 'dirtier' player... Stevens was really good at hurting guys.
