Exactly. And if the Flyers come out and make a general statement, then they better not make a move that is perceived as going against that statement. Everything is taken so literal, it's ridiculous.

Having the response of "The Flyers have publicly said they want to do a better job at puck possession and get more disciplined, yet just about every move they have made this summer is a step back in one or both of those areas" because they signed Ryan White as depth player is a poor observation and an overreaction. Not to mention simply being false. One of the biggest factors in the biggest move they made this Summer, was on ice discipline.

He misses the irony of turning an observation of a trend into a gross overstatement while using it to complain about people making overstatements.

It's almost genius.

The point is that the trend is imagined and simply not there. That's the true irony. And it's no different then the panic last season when the Flyers waived Hall and other players for cap maneuvering. Much ado about nothing. They signed Ryan White as a depth player to a 2 way contract. Now they're going against their stated new direction and philosophy.

The Flyers move is where the much ado about nothing comes in. The panic and overreaction to it, warranted a response.

No panic or overreaction, so really no response needed. In fact, during your back read I'm sure you saw the post where I said as much, but then you'd have nothing to nitpick, would you?

To save you the trip, back to page 22, here goes:

BTW, I'm not panicking or losing sleep over the White addition. Never realized that making an observation and looking at several factors was panic. It's not a big deal, but it also runs counter to stated team objectives.

Gotcha.

I don't know too many folks yet, and I give everyone the benefit of the doubt until they prove I shouldn't.

For the most part, it's a decent group. Some smart folk, and a couple naïve.

I did notice that some people take things way too literally, and others don't get sarcasm at all (I happen to be sarcastic more often than not), but I'm not necessarily referring to this fan base. Like you, I'm killing time, so I check out all things hockey regardless of the team the thread represents.

The dearth of news doesn't help in the summer. It's either been bittersweet(seeing Hartnell go for Umberger), rather boring (Blair Jones, Ryan White & Zach Stortini) or bad ( Timonen's blood clots). The one addition that I'm excited about is Del Zotto, but the rest has been a mixed bag.

But the slow pace of things leads to rehashing old arguments & old animosities, so I tend to try and ignore those I don't like to chat with and enjoy the conversations with those I do like.

But that's life, right?

Anyhow, not to drone on, but I'm going to finish watching Jaws and hit the hay. I had a long day. Welcome aboard

All of those defensemen ARE a major part of the rebuild. That's what you're waiting for.

And those other guys are great, but where is your scoring wing depth?

Do you honestly think they're ready now?

They're not.

3 years when those defensemen are ready and money is off of the books. That's when they fill the team out. 2 if we're fortunate.

- Hesh_

What your describing isn't a rebuild. It's call smart management of a team. Sure we should draft more wingers but the team isn't dying for wingers within it's system because the wingers we have playing for us are in their early to mid 20's, while entering their prime. Our defense is questionable but still an NHL level defense. There is nothing wrong with what we have but there is nothing wrong with stalk piling for tomorrow. Wingers on the other hand are much easier to come by then puck moving top level defenseman. That's why we're drafting the way we are.

All of this however doesn't tell me why you think the Hartnell for Umberger screams rebuild though.
