I watxhed him play all last season and he was really skinny. Good for him if he put on some weight. He really needed it.

3 years he'll be here, adding muscle, working on skating, & positioning this upcoming season could shorten that time frame. (well that's my time frame for him)

He's young. If he can channel that into positive with maturity, he'll be loved by the fans.

No doubt, in games I watched over the course of the season you could see him get better & the reason why he was selected as high as was on display more often.

3 years is a bit long in terms of team needs. You guys could use a bit of help back there with a guy like him who can be very good both offensively and defensively.

Honestly my only concern for him his the toll an 82 games nhl season would take on his body.

Well by 3 years I mean being counted on more at the NHL level not suggesting he'll be kept in the AHL if at all.

Suspensions rarely if ever help a team.

Playing aqainst lesser competition " just about" makes players better.

The Flyers have publicly said they want to do a better job at puck possession and get more disciplined, yet just about every move they have made this summer is a step back in one or both of those areas.

I could see white being signed as a Phantom, though...it is a two way deal

- Jsaquella

They've made basically 4 major moves this Summer. They've signed Ray Emery as the backup Goalie. They signed Schultz for the 7th defense spot. And they signed Del Zotto to help with the potential loss of Timonen for however long. And they traded Hartnell, who takes a lot of penalties, for a more disciplined Umberger.

So I don't see any major step back anywhere. Unless we're seriously going to consider minor league signings like Ryan White and other depth players that are likely going to be on the Phantoms. This is eerily similar to the complaining when the Flyers made some move right before the season, in cap manuevering. Much ado about nothing.

Eric Engels just tweeted he feels the discipline thing is overblown. I generally trust Eric's opinions, but the PIM total and stuff I have have me a bit leery.

I get that he's a depth signing and likely a Phantom. But if you're trying to purge discipline at the NHL level, why stockpile it in the AHL? Especially if you're going to be using the AHL team more for development than you have in many years

- Jsaquella

Every AHL team needs some veteran players. And it also gives them a depth center for call ups in case of injuries.

Haven't you learned yet? Each and every move the Flyers make, no matter how big or small, is cause for mindless panic, severe condemnation and the end of the world as we know it.

Well at least around here it is.

- BiggE

Exactly. And if the Flyers come out and make a general statement, then they better not make a move that is perceived as going against that statement. Everything is taken so literal, it's ridiculous.

That's OK, Chris VandeVelde will be happy to give PK Subban his number 76 jersey in October
