oh i get that. But people seem to think we are idiots. We aren't saying Del Zotto can replace Kimmo. National mdeia types think we are stupid. But with better team d this team can be better. Which also makes the d look better.
- J35Bacher

Agreed. Del Zotto isn't replacing Timonen. The Flyers lost a dman prior to the season starting, a spot opened up on the blueline. Hextall went out and got a young, cheap option with some potential upside. Nothing more, nothing less. Not a hard concept to grasp.

Question: In order to use Pronger's LTIR to the fullest, the team would either have to be at the cap with him or over by his cap hit. Anything in between, the team cannot use, correct? In other words, if they are over the cap by $3M rather than his full cap hit, once they LTIR him, they are at the cap, not approx. $1.7M below.

MDZ, low risk, potentially high reward.

Do the Flyers have a dominant 1st pair? No. They will have 3 competent pairs. The 3rd pair guys will end up getting about 18 minutes rather than 12-14. With who they have, I am comfortable with that.

How well the team plays defense will be determined by the forwards.

I hope they make a push to get Hayes. I think the team could very well promise him a spot on the 1st or 2nd line right away. I think, for now, VL will be a Flyer. Hayes and Schenn would be the LW's on the first 2 lines determined by their play in camp.

I would probably put Simmonds up with G and put Jake with VL as Jake is the better skater and passer and VL would be the "sniper" on the line. G needs to realize that HE is the "sniper". He needs to trust his shot more - the OT goal against Chicago is not the exception for him. There is a reason he is the trigger man on the side of the umbrella on the PP. I could see him getting 35+ goals and Simmonds getting more even strength goals by being there to sweep in the garbage.

I would keep Umberger/Coots/Read together. I would also have Laughton as the 4th line center between Raffl and Bellamore. I don't like Rinaldo. You really don't want to have a guy out there for whom you say, "As long as he keeps himself under control." It is not worth the aggravation.

In a best case scenario, by the end of February, the team is clearly in the hunt for a play-off spot if not fairly certain of one:
1) Timo comes back;
2) Ghost, Alt and Hagg get to play a boatload of confidence building minutes where the team would feel comfortable transitioning one or two of them to 12-14 minutes at the NHL level.
3) VL plays well enough to have trade value at the deadline.

They could then look to deal one to two D and VL in order to find what they believe are the missing pieces.

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP.

Huh? wha? Ok.....Ok......I'm up. I'm up.

so what you're saying is they can't find flaws in your game via analytics, only the eye test?

I bypass the firewall because I helped set it up and am one of only two people that know there's a wifi connection.

Edit: the son of the Company's President just got busted watching HBOgo and Showtime all day. It's a good thing we're paying him 6 figures.

Lets hope we got a diamond in the rough. Its not like he forgot how to play hockey. Hopefully he gets his confidence back and does feel like he has something to prove.

I'm guessing something along the lines of:

"So, you've had a few pretty bad season where you didn't really play well at all. How do you plan on turning that around?"

"Philadelphia has had a history of overpaying for bad defenseman, and a lot of fans didn't want you. What do you have to say to those fans?"

"Do you think you're able to replace a 5-time Olympian like Kimmo Timonen?"

"Your last name has a space in it. Is this an indication that you are prone to leaving gaps when playing?"

excuse if this has already been posted, but...

how much cap space do we have once Timo and Pronger are both LTIR or whatever the case?

capgeek is showing me approx 2mill in cap space, is that correct?

They are probably going to use that space on calling up waiver exempt players like Hagg & Straka who can be demoted as soon as the season officially starts to give them actual cap room at the start of the season. I don't think they will sign any more players who aren't waiver exempt.

I might have been a bit harsh, but I thought bringing up Totorella by name was a bit unnecessary. MDZ basically ignored that part of the question, as you might expect. He's not going to get into bashing his old coach.

It's scary stuff.

http://therattrick.com/20...ade-for-him-i-would-know/

On his way back home from a long flight to the Czech Republic in 2008, Fleischmann noticed that he had lost feeling in his legs, only later to find he had been diagnosed with a genetic blood disorder called Deep Vein Thrombosis. This mutation is something that most people are born with but don’t find out they have it until a blood clot has already formed.

Yeah man that's how a lot of these kids that drop dead playing a sport in high school die. That and undetected heart defects. It's out there.

Carle, Meszaros and Coburn all turned out to be worthy reclamations... MDZ could definitely follow in that vein.

MDZ could possibly put up Mez like numbers for 3 million less!
Let's hope he does.

I don't think that's far outside the realm of possibility. However, no way he'll match the physical game Mez had pre-shoulder falling off.
