Easy: Brooks Orpik.
- Tomahawk

Has been regarded as one of the better shutdown d-men for years. Has a better reputation than Coburn.

Was Ryan Whitney really ever that much of a stud though? He was at the same level as Matt Carle for a lesser amount of time.

Important question: at what point does Kimmo need to retire for his 2M to come off the cap? This is important because there is a good chance the Flyers wait and see with his condition. Timing is also key if they plan on making a trade or signing another UFA with regard to available cap.
- coffee junkie

I don't know why he would retire. Retiring would be voluntarily giving up 2M bucks.

I said before it wasnt an end all, be all. But it is useful. For instance Pronger is a monster +/-. That is no mistake.

Pretty sure Weber was a minus player this season. That's no mista-

He scored 59 pts in a season just at or around the time he was an olympian. So at that time he deserved it.

Guys like Komisarek, Volchenkov, Gleason, Colin White, Witt, and Gill had stellar reputations as "shut down" dmen too... didn't stop them from getting kicked to the curb by their clubs.

The fact that it's even close tells you all that you need to know. I don't have the list of current American Olympicans in front of me but I can blindly tell you that Coburn wouldn't be out of place on Team USA.

Well they all regressed by that time.

Crosby had 120 pts that year... let's just say that his coattails were long and roomy.

And old Brooksy is on the top of his game, right?

Tell you what. I would have Coburn over Paul Martin or Justin Faulk. He would be a scratch to me though. Those two were picked because they can create offense.

I bet Coburn would become a 50 pt guy on Pitt.

Ryan Whitney had 59 points in his second season as an NHLer. I'm pretty sure Whitney was an Olympian in 2010 when he had 32 points and traded from the Ducks to the Oilers the same season.

But did he have an impact on that team, whatsoever? This all started because you compared Coburn to Hatcher. If Hatcher was Canadien since we are going by what ifs... He would have been an impact player on that team as well.

You asked me to name one Olympian who Coburn could beat out on Team USA. I did. At the same time you tried to make a case for Ryan Whitney and based on what I'm reading is incorrect. Yes Whitney has had 59 point season and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but that 59 point season was years after he played in the Olympics.

I think we all know he's a walking buy out waiting to happen.

Edit: Coburn has all the traits of the ideal shutdown under today's rules... he's a monster defending zone entries, and he's above-average everywhere else on his side of the red-line. I suspect w/ Kimmo out, that he'll get some PP time this year, too, which will boost the point totals.

HAHA, I never said he was worth that kinda money. Holy hell will the Caps regret that.

Coburn has a clear cut impact on this team simply by being considered our number one defenseman right now.

Ok, but how is this in any relation to Derian Hatcher?

I like Coburn, but Paul Martin is a much better player. Paul Martin is very underrated.

How isn't it? I brought up the name (Hatcher) which might be a reach but by a lot. Your trying to defend your argument but are doing a poor job.
