Alternate captains could possibly be Streit and Vinny if still there.
- Cable2k

I think Simmonds is a lock for an "A". While I believe Coburn is long over due, I believe Streit will get the other.

Based on what they do and have done, it should be Coburn and Simmonds. Coburn has been nothing but a quiet professional since he joined the Flyers and he deserves it.

Call me crazy but I'd rather the opportunity to look at a young guy like MDZ to see if he can fit in with the youth movement than to watch a nearly broken kimmo trudge through another year. Either way this team isn't contending.
- Just5

Timonen didn't "trudge" through last year, what made you think he would this year?

I know everyone is looking at the d pairings and wondering what might happen. I think you could see Schenn moved up to play with Coburn. Schenn can be the thumper and maybe that allows Coburn to be able to skate the puck more. Schenn seems to elevate his game with more minutes and this might be the time for him to lock down this spot. That would leave MacDonald to play with Streit and Grossmann to play with Del Zotto. Gives each pair a shot blocker and puck mover.

Also I have a feeling Del Zotto will be a steal. Playing in the Metro I think he will want to stick it the Ragers and prove he is not a bust. Same way Mason came here and proved he belonged. Also he gives another solid option on the 2nd PP.

Important question: at what point does Kimmo need to retire for his 2M to come off the cap? This is important because there is a good chance the Flyers wait and see with his condition. Timing is also key if they plan on making a trade or signing another UFA with regard to available cap.

Zubrus - Zajac - Jagr
Cammalleri - Elias - Havlat
Clowe - Henrique - Ryder
Ruutu - Gionta - Brunner
Bernier

- Tomahawk

On paper that looks pretty solid. They lack a true star player but they have depth.

Sure but it is also one of the most fragile lineups I have seen in a long time. Really rolling the dice with injury prone players don't you think?

You know its tough times in Philly when Coburn is looked upon as your best defenseman.

I don't expect MDZ to set the world on fire, but he could be a fair value addition. Maybe he gains a little bit of his old form back, possibly playing with something to prove, and can put up something like 6/19/25 or so. I could like with that from a 5/6 defenseman. You need to watch his ES minutes, though. Basically, he's a poor man's cheap Mike green.

So, the tough times started last year? Despite Timonen winning the Ashbee Trophy, I feel Coburn was more deserving last year.

Which "injury prone" players are we rolling outside of Grossmann and Vinny?

I'm telling you. Hextall will talk all he wants about not rushing the young D-men but if Morin or Ghost show they are better than any of the top-6 that are currently penciled in right now. They will be on the starting roster, make no mistake about it.

Look Coburn is solid but he is far from being a reliable 1st pairing d-man. His +/- proves it

I never said anything other. But he was our best defenseman last year, for better or worse.

Also, +/-.....yyyyeaaahhhh...so if we're using that as a barometer, Shea Weber is Nashville's 4th best defenseman.

So you're saying that two rosters with non-injury-prone players are injury-prone? Or were you trying to say, "I don't think the Devils are injury prone." Very confused over here. Are you 2Real?

Dont you think if you are a "Great" D-man you should be on the plus side? I know its not a end all, be all. But it gives you a pretty good idea about that players defense. I.E. Lecavalier -16 and -5 (playoffs)

When it comes solely to this board, I'm kind of happy that the Flyers didn't get Shea Weber. He's my favorite player in the NHL, and I'm sure that, were he on the Flyers, he'd be getting shredded apart for not being Superman 82 times a year on this board. He's be reduced to a 5th defenseman is some people's eyes, begging for the return of Sean O'Donnell and Oskars Bartulis.
