let's hope that MDZ gets his game together like mason did here. Flyers had few options here and prob picked the BPA. he's still young enuf at 24, so there's that.

Without Timonen, I feel like this team got worse this offseason.
I, also, feel they enter the season with more question marks than when they left last season. - PhillySportsGuy
I agree. An extra season of Timonen would have bought them time to fill the hole. Even in a reduced role, I still think he would have been a huge part of the team.
If Schenn & Couturier can step up, missing Hartnell isn't a big deal, but they're really going to be in trouble on defense. They had two guys who they could count on in all situations. Now there's really only Coburn |

There were folks on this board that would have LOVED to get him from NYR when they traded him to Nashville.
He's no Timonen, but they won't ask him to be. If he keeps it simple and holds up his end of the bargain, he'll be fine.
That task of picking up Kimmo Timonen's slack is gonna fall to a combination of Streit and Coburn. - johndewar
As much as I hate that style of hockey, it might be to the Flyers benefit to concentrate more on clogging up the middle of the ice and using their speed on the counter. |

And how good will Coburn be when he's paired with Amac instead of Timonen?... |

I would think he's with Streit. AMac and Schenn looked good together. |

Call me crazy but I'd rather the opportunity to look at a young guy like MDZ to see if he can fit in with the youth movement than to watch a nearly broken kimmo trudge through another year. Either way this team isn't contending. |

Not bashing him. Coburn is the type of player who needs a strong partner to be successful. Amac has proven to be over his head when put on the top pair. |

There is a reason MDZ sat around this long and signed for 1yr $1.3M. He signed for close to what Schultz signed for. Thats how he's viewed around the league. He's as valuable as Nick Schultz |

He needs a puck mover. He and Streit should be good together. |

I Know, probably because this team pretended Kimo would play forever.

No he waited so long and signed for that much because he had a bad year. He's better than his contract. He just signed a one year contract worth that much so he can prove himself as the player he was a few years ago. And if that happens he will be a bargain this year.(already is at 1.3 million AAV) then next year he will be signed to a big raise. |

It's possible he's about as good as kimmo next year. Kimmo was fading and fast |

Is Streit strong enough defensively to handle top lines? Can Coburn rely on him to be in position and make the play defensively? |

I hope you're right. He had some good times in New York, to go along with those struggles.
He's not going to be Kimmo Timonen, but he could be a nice solid addition. He'll probably have a chip on his shoulder and be out to prove people wrong. |

Timonen is a top 4 defenseman on every team in hockey. MDZ is a #6 defenseman on a bad defensive unit. |

No, but the same could be said for every other defenseman on our team. |

If you follow that rationale, Engelland/Stoner are 3X better that MDZ is? |

thats what Timonen was last year, there comes a point (and you never know when its going to hit) that a player just doesnt have "it" anymore. |
