Who's going to play D in Edmonton? We know it won't be Schultz, Nikitin, Ference or Marincin.

Did you draft him or was that a signing?

i feel like they're just stuck in a bad situation. there's nothing they can do right now to make a major improvement and i didn't really like the makeup of the defense anyway. i haven't for a few years.

i think it just is what it is now. and they probably will have to play guys like macdonald more than they ever intended to now and they'll be exposed for what they are if you overextend them. so it's bad all around.

- mark_laforest

yeah, I have a feeling they're gonna roll with it until the kids they drafted on defense are ready in 1, 2 and 3 years, pending they pan out.

Look, I think Hexy has no intentions of going balls out like previous Flyers GMs have unless the Cup is within reach. It's not. I think he's gonna try to give Snider the illusion of success while he strips it to it's core and starts over focusing on smart drafting and adding where necessary. He's a Lombardi guy.

College Free Agent....defensively aware, good positioning, but not a strong skater. Probably plays in Oklahoma in the fall.

amac only blocks shots because he can't take the body, can't tie up the stick, can't clear the zone and otherwise he's useless. He blocks a ton of shots because he causes a ton of turnovers and plays very passive defense.

expecting him to be solid defensively will lead to some terrible disappointment

wha? we have all young guys up front already.
edit sadly, if they balanced out the D, like they did the forwards, they would be in a better position.
I wish Hartnell would have brought in a d man, but he didn't.

hextall will probably be fired before he can turn this around.

which is a shame because he at least has an outside perspective to compare things to. but to do this right it would take a while and snider is 2700 years old. he probably wants results sooner than can be realistically expected.

mmhmm, and I hope a few blossom and stay!

my hope is that the defense in the system develops and can hit while a bunch of these guys are still in their prime.

and no, they don't have all the young guys. They need some scoring at wing. I love Simmonds and Giroux. I love Coot's defensive play and I hope he can open up a little more on offense. Yeah, Schenn and Voracek are talented and have friendly deals, but man this team needs scoring depth at wing.

As long as the seats are filled, Snider gives his managers (especially ex-players) pretty decent rope. They've had a total of 7 GMs, including Hextall (and Clarke had the job twice).

I think the seats will remained filled. Nobody likes giving up their Flyers season tixx.

We'll just have to see.

I agree with u on hoping they blossom as well, I think they have 6-7 solid young forwards, but what they lack is a sniping winger, I would love to see Coots take his game to the next level as well!
But G, Coots, Schenn, Voracek, Simmonds, Read are all young, problem is they waited so long to do the same on the back line.
Hoping Delzotto, (if he comes here), can regain his game, he has a lot to prove, &
has all the tools, skating, passing, shot, & still only 24.
If teamed with a defensive D man he could improve our top 4.

i hope so because this is gonna take a little time.

not a ton of time but still some.

i just hope snyder isn't looking at it like he wants to win one before he dies. i guess that's what i mean i'm worried about.

sadly, now that he'll probably have to play more, this could be true.

the flyers are going to get the version the isles had, which isn't what they wanted to do with him.

I'm not posting to poop on the flyers. That's not my intention what so ever. I know a lot of you flyers fans like to defend the streit and Amac signings. I get it. And don't get me wrong, they do put up decent points, especially on the PP. But after years of watching these two play defense, I'm being fully honest in saying that I am so glad these two are no longer wearing isles jerseys. If they were signed to reasonable contracts and only restricted to bottom pairing/PP time, I'd reconsider.

But these two were consistently out of position. They looked lost at times in their own end, and coughed up the puck more times a game then u can ever count. They would easily get out muscled off the puck, and often times let to goals, or a decent scoring chance for the opposing team. Between the two I'd certainly take streit over Amac.

But there were times I'd just get so overly frustrated watching them both lose possession. The reason why Amac led the league in blocked shots was because he hardly had possession or lost it inside his own zone. And he wasn't on the PK, so that point isn't valid.

It's just my two cents on these. Who knows maybe they'll improve and help out the flyers this year, but I was certainly relieved when we traded both these guys.

Btw no need to rip me a new one saying my team is bad, I know the isles are still struggling, but that doesn't mean my perspective is meaningless.

Dedshark, that died on the vine awhile ago. It's okay. And it wasn't just you. Hell, since then there has been perfectly amicable discussions between Flyers and Isles fans.

and BINGO! - I know, right? It was a good call. Whodathunk it?
