I'm not posting to poop on the flyers. That's not my intention what so ever. I know a lot of you flyers fans like to defend the streit and Amac signings. I get it. And don't get me wrong, they do put up decent points, especially on the PP. But after years of watching these two play defense, I'm being fully honest in saying that I am so glad these two are no longer wearing isles jerseys. If they were signed to reasonable contracts and only restricted to bottom pairing/PP time, I'd reconsider.
But these two were consistently out of position. They looked lost at times in their own end, and coughed up the puck more times a game then u can ever count. They would easily get out muscled off the puck, and often times let to goals, or a decent scoring chance for the opposing team. Between the two I'd certainly take streit over Amac.
But there were times I'd just get so overly frustrated watching them both lose possession. The reason why Amac led the league in blocked shots was because he hardly had possession or lost it inside his own zone. And he wasn't on the PK, so that point isn't valid.
It's just my two cents on these. Who knows maybe they'll improve and help out the flyers this year, but I was certainly relieved when we traded both these guys.
Btw no need to rip me a new one saying my team is bad, I know the isles are still struggling, but that doesn't mean my perspective is meaningless. - Dedshark
most flyers fans are nozzles and won't accept your point of view. but some of us actually understand where you guys are coming from and agree with you.
all i've been saying is what if while the isles had them they weren't asked to do as much and the expectations were a little bit lower? what if streit really was just utilized for his shot and andy played less minutes in less pressure situations?
i always thought that was the idea when the flyers brought them over. but now it's all going to go to hell anyway. |

Flyer D does not appear very strong.
They need to do a big deal and bring in a top pair player. I don't think they can do Phaneuf because of the cap. But they need to get someone who play 25 minutes and comes with a price tag under $5m. Or, they can chase a guy like Byfluglien and give up the same salary going back (Schenn and Schenn).
Hextall will earn his pay over the next 6 weeks. MDZ is a knee jerk reaction, not a solution. |

I don't think hextall works that way. I think what you see is what you get. I doubt they'll trade out their 4 kids on d in the system.
Frankly, I dunno if anyone will trade you a $5mil for 25 minute defenseman without asking a giant ransom in return. those guys don't get small deals anymore, so I think that idea is scrapped because it would cost too much.
for the team, its a kimmo for mdz swap. it's slightly worse than it was, pending Kimmo didn't age over the summer. Might actually be pretty close to the same considering that. I love Timonen, but he's had to resort to a lil clutch and grab the past two seasons.
which no, isn't good. but I gotta tell you, i'm not sure they're shooting for the stars right now anyway with or without timonen. they're building. |

Pronger and Timo both to LTIR leaves them 3.9 mill in cap space.
Phaneuf for Grossman....done. |

Phaneuf would be a good fit for the Flyers. Still don't see Hextall making a 7 year commitment. |

Paul Martin? I'd bet he's available. Numbers game only and we need a Top 6 player back in a deal like this.
What would you be willing to give up, top 6 material? |

honestly, take a look. you WANT anything?
and no thanks on Martin. He'd be an upgrade, but as Ricky Watters once said "For who? For what?"
This team isn't planning a Cup run. They're trying to develop youth. |

AMAc had a tough playoffs but other than that he has been solid in Flyers Jersey, he will need a larger sample size to evaluate. As for Streit he had a tough start to the season but after those poor 15 games by the Flyers he played really well. I wanted him on the Top PP unit over Timonen. I felt he was the better offensive player. The only way to improve the Flyers D right now is to get a true number 1 Dman or at least a guy with Grossman's size but better puck handling and speed. |

Neither has NJ's D for the past few years yet they manage to do extremely well. Flyer lack a top D man but they have a team full of top 4 guys to even out the time. Without Timonen now that would weaken the D unless Del Zotto surprises everyone. Flyers just need to play well as a team and commit to Defense. That was a huge part why the Flyers looked overwhelmed by the Rangers in the Playoffs. Too much standing around, wingers not supporting the Clear and Dmen panicking with the puck. There was a couple times Coburn was increadibly weak on the puck and basically let Ranger players steal the puck from him. |

Martin is not showing signs of slowing down at all to be honest. Very savy with the puck and a gym freak. The only thing that scares me is how much he'll be looking for on his next deal. |
