who is looking for sympathy? we are talking about advanced stats. I didn't bring up the Kings-Rangers final, Todd did - jimbro83
Okay, the point is you're using the fact that the Rangers and Kings went to OT a bunch as some means to disprove advanced statistics when those statistics have absolutely nothing to do with it. |

but Todd said if you looked at advanced stats before the finals started, it indicated the Kings would win. Did he not say that? |

so advanced stats are just some loosely based ideas that Todd has written about every single day since the season ended. - jimbro83
What do you care
He's also not the only person talking about it |

Some bloggers focus more on stats, some focus more on observation. If it bothers you that much why do you read?
Also it's August, literally the most nothing-is-happening time of the hockey year, what do you want him to write about? Cam Janssen's grit and leadership? |

Saying that advanced stats would predict, not indicate, the Kings would beat the Rangers in the SCF is a true statement. |

I have yet to see the winning part of any of your arguments but I guess success is in the eyes of the beholder. |

show me some advanced stats that predicted the Rangers would be clanking pucks off the posts in all the overtimes of the Finals and I will become a true believer |

That's not an advanced stat, your big money guys just couldn't produce from their chances. |

That is not the point of the stats, the stats say that the Kings possess the puck better (i.e. more often) than the Rangers and TYPICALLY the Kings generate more chances (i.e. are more often getting the puck towards the net) than the Rangers, and if you use any semblance on common sense, the team that has the puck more often and the team that generates more scoring chances definitely has a better CHANCE to win.
You're issue is you're confusing the term "predict" with the concept of literally telling the future.
If you can invent something that will tell me exactly how many posts a team will hit in a playoff series than you should be using your talents for something more important than hockey.
Or you should be in Vegas making bank. |

No, you're point is that all advanced stats are meaningless because there are also other factors that significantly contribute to the outcome of a hockey game.
Our point is while there are also other factors that significantly contribute to the outcome of a hockey game, advanced stats are a very useful tool to analyze and help predict how a team will do, but they are by no means absolute or prophetic. |

actually my overall point is that I find it fascinating that you can't say anything negative about advanced stats these days without someone losing their minds. It's almost like it's when someone says something negative a religion or politics, people just get that horrified face. |

try again. In fact, this is what you do. Write it down first. Come up with a couple of drafts, then type the final product here, things will be better. |

No I didn't. Clearly you're incapable of reading a few sentences without misinterpreting everything. I never said a word about who would win the series in my comment. I said advanced stats helped me predict LA/NYR Cup Final. |
