FYI, I know for a fact that 75% of your assumptions in this post are BS.
Sure LaFontaine wanted to keep Miller around (for leadership & to throw a bone to the fans) but so did TM!!!

It was Miller's choice to leave! Ryan Told TM he wanted to move on to a contender before he got too old, & TM's hands were tied.

Honest question: What makes you think Patty would have done a better job?
- thatsapickle

Than who?

Patty hired Murray.

If it wasn't for him, TM wouldn't be here. You like TM, no?

You're saying we would be doing better if Patty was here. I am curious what would be different/better if he was here.

What truth? You realize you made two points that argue against eachother right?

You hope we don't go the NYR way, which according to you, the "cronies" were attempting to do, yet you are criticizing people for not wanting to go out and get the Ovechkins of the world who haven't won anything yet...... I'm confused

- sbroads24

You don't see a diffence in over-paying the wrong players vs over-paying the right players then?

Well isnt that convienient?

Point A. -One player doesn't win a Championship, be it a Vanek or an Ovechkin. Teams win championships, period.

Point B. -Overpaying a particular player, doesn't make him good (ie. Ville Leino).

Two entirely different points really, try to keep up.

I think that when it comes time for hockey based decisions, we would have a better, & more informed brain trust in place to make those decisions.

Plus many more "connections" around the league to consult or recruit.

Gladly

"Semantics. We have a low payroll because theaters that we tried to retain wouldn't sign here (Vanek, Miller, Pommer)...

That wasn't by some grand fiscally responsible design. This situation was dictated to management by star players who deemed this organization unworthy"

Is this not you criticizing Pegula and the "cronies" for being Jerry Jones-ish and wanting to spend money?

Yet in a post not even a page later criticize someone for not wanting to spend money on players that never won

"And the players left here in their wake accomplished even less, bravo!

A pretty small-minded opinion IMO, but never the less, your entitled to it.

Only one team can win the Cup each yr. Ovechkin hasn't ever won anything in the playoffs... And I guess you'd never want him on this roster because of it? "

Of course teams win championships. I'm sure some people think that Greene/Richards/Carter are overpaid by the Kings, but they still won. Does it make their contracts right?

Crosby and Malkin make a ton of money and haven't won with the new contracts.

I don't see your point. You can overpay a "great" player and not win anything, and you can overpay an overrated player and still win. It happens all the time.

Alright no dead threads. When will Grigorenko make it to Buffalo?
- Buffalo-Sabres

I'm hoping we get to see some glimpses this year due to injuries or movements and really hoping for noticeable improvement. He's had a rough go at it and it seems that he's earnestly trying to turn things around. A little adversity can build character after all.

The funny part is I never mentioned Ovetchkin and I have no idea what he has to do with Pegula or the Sabres.

Lafontaine being here makes no difference.

Do you honestly think he had 100% say over who became GM with all of Pegula's "Cronies" being Jerry Jones-ish control freaks?

I hope so. He definitely starts in Rochester this year. If nothing else I'd like to see him carry that team and do some things.

None of these are my real argument. My original point is that more coaches doesnt always equate to better coaches (too many chief & not

What you have there are statements without context of the coho, which is why you don't see the point.

Someone argued that were not gonna throw $$$ at our problems because we currently haves low payroll...

Yet our payroll situation was merely dictated to our management by our franchise players.

This doesn't mean that T-Pegs won't try to throw money at problems to make them go away (as seen with Leino, Ehrhoff, & an attempting to make Vanek the highest paid player in the NHL ).

I don't see the issue here. Murray is the GM. He makes the decisions. Those decisions obviously can be vetoed by Pegula but it seems as they've given him free reign to make this team the way he wants it. LaFontaine is gone (and has been for quite a while so I don't know why this is the daily debate) and I haven't noticed anything bad happen since. Maybe he could help on a decision in the future but for now it seems to be fine.

Again, you need to read the entire thread to understand the context.

Somebody claimed Vanek & Miller are useless because they didnt win anything...

My reply was, only one team "Wins" it all. And just because a guy's team doesn't win The Cup, doesn't mean he's useless.

Who wouldn't want OV here? His talent is obvious. But some Sabre fans would apparently classify his skillset as useless, because his never won. Flawed logic, IMO.
