Well, Del Zotto wasn't my first choice, but honestly, at this stage of the game, anyone they signed has flaws.

I hope he plays well and maybe finds a home here -- Lord knows there is opportunity -- and becomes a good result after a pretty tough news day.

If Michael Del Zotto can come in and play above average (he has a lot to prove), he could very well become apart of this team's future.

stud free agents ?
- -davies-

I guess! When the Flyers do acquire a player, he's a bum and is mediocre. Then if they don't acquire a player, that's a problem also. So it's pretty much whatever they do, is a problem!

It could be another Steve Mason type of scenario.

I didn't have a problem with signing Timmo at all. Risks included.
- 77rams

I think Kimmo was playing through a lot more then we realized.

Does Niskanen fit this scenario?
- PLindbergh31

Ah yes. The ol 7+ mil contract to a player after one good season. Works every time

Go be negative somewhere else. It's a rough day with the Kimmo news ok?

Is it possible that MDZ is getting a bad rap beyond what his play merits? I mean is he really that bad?

Buying low on a 24-yo dman who has speed, incredibly high offensive ceiling, and can move the puck w penache... seems to be everything we were asking for this summer.

So the highlights since the season ended are the Capt grabbing a cops ass, and blood clots. Totally awesome! Beats landing a stud free agent or improving the team via trade.
- PLindbergh31

What stud free agent was out there?
Sure package the golden child in Couturier and they could have improved the team.
Until then, blame Hexy, Holmgren and all that is orange and black for blood clots.

Niskanen is a stiff. He got overpaid by a mile. Tough competing with offers from those non playoff teams.

Just pair him with the right guy. My hope is Luke Schenn, who I also believes should still be apart of this team's future plans.

I think it's a bit concerning that TWO teams seemed so willing to get rid of him for very little or nothing at all.

Is he bad player. Nope.

Does he have a poop ton of stuff to figure out in his own zone, in the consistency dept, and the competitiveness dept? Yeah.

I'm sure he was.

But I'm also sure if he knew he'd jeopardize his health by playing another year, he would have ridden off into the midnight sunset after last season.

Nobody saw this coming.

Man, I'd settle for a Tom Gilbert result. Play well enough to earn a multi-year deal. Mason has been great. Del Zotto...hell. Time for Gord Murphy to earn his money, maybe?

If Del Zotto can just hold his own defensively, just fit into the system and not be a liability...it's going to be trickier than I would hope, but maybe with a little luck we can be right there with a chance at the playoffs.
