Wow, what is most important is that Kimmo is ok. Secondary is the FACT that the Flyers organisation has a Vodoo curse on it. If he doesn't come back it is cap hell. Maybe good for Morin?
Again the most important thing is Kimmo gets better for his own sake. - coffee junkie
If he isn't going to play this year he would likely retire and his contract would come off the cap since it was a single-year deal. |

even at his age, kimmo is still a very solid defender. they're not going to replace him with an equivalent for the same cap hit, and they're already strapped to the gills.
just another day is this godforsaken (frank)ing franchise's history. |

I've been a Flyers fan long enough to know that no day in-season and no day in the offseason, even when they don't make any official transaction, is quiet. The light at the end of the tunnel, on a day like today, is usually a fully-loaded Amtrak.
I'm not even surprised. I'm just not.
Best wishes to Kimmo Timonen. His health is more important than hockey.
The hockey, of course, will have its own challenges, because somehow, some way, I'm gonna think that this is not gonna be resolved in a month. |

I always liked Steve Simmons' Sunday column, but he really came off like a real dillhole in that whole spat with Dellow. - johndewar
You can tell he went into that interview just waiting to go off, and once Grabovski was mentioned he lost it. |

Well, as cold as it sounds, they now have an extra $2,000,000 to play with.
Whether he retires or goes on LTIR. (my bet is retire)

Maybe. I don't know what becomes of Timonen's cap space if he has to retire or he doesn't play. I don't know if it gives them any flexibility in a deal.
And I was more of the impression they were looking to deal one of their own defensemen.....not pick up another one. |

It's laughable, what the options are right now. We all know them.
They either rush a kid or play someone who is either demonstrably worse or can't handle the 20 minutes Timonen plays, which means other guys will be exposed that much more.
The domino effect on this defense will be scary. Not because 39-year-old Timonen is one of the league's best defenseman. It's because there's nobody else on the Flyers who can do ALL THE THINGS he does.
Damn it. |

You're a Flyers fan. You know they want to do both. Trade one of their 4/5 mil D and pick up an upgrade through a trade. |

Really, when you look at our D there really hasn't been anything resembling good news in two years other than at the draft. |

Silver lining part deux: IF he comes back, maybe he misses a good chunk at the beginning of the year and isn't burnt out by the playoffs.
Totally secondary at this point, though. |
