Remember, that is also the team that signed Gionta, Ennis, Leino and Stafford to $4M+ deals.
We're kind of beyond ideals now, right? Desperate times... desperate measures.

Derek Morris played 19:26 per game for the Coyotes. He seems like the type of veteran guy Hextall would be comfortable with. |

I thought he had to sit out while on blood thinners.
I did read he had a filter put in his inferior vena cava to prevent further clots reaching the lungs, but did not know they let him play hockey while taking blood thinners... seems dangerous - Marc D
he took the injections in his stomach, I forget the name, I had to do the same thing after I had a saddle embolism. he also has to wear a compression suit when he flies. |

Nobody saw this coming but IF Hextall already addressed our defensive woes via trade or FA this would not have hurt as much. Obviously we want the best for Timonen, but I was already not comfortable with the same D going into another season, now we could be in much more trouble. Making a trade will be so much harder as everyone knows the Flyers are desperate

They could make a minor deal with someone with the little cap space they have unless they take a flier on someone like MDZ, as is being reported.
I was pretty fine with taking a step back this year, to take 2 forward next year. |

I know no one wants to do this but, does any of this move up the time table of Morin, Haag, ghost, etc? |

Homer already spent all the money on AMac. Hexy managed to add Schultz and retain Kimmo on cheaper deals than we all could have hoped for. And as if the other GMs didn't already know the Flyers were desperate before this latest news broke. |

Pretty sure Kimmo had a similar issue when he first arrived in Philadelphia.

I was hoping for life after kimmo to start this year anyway. I'd like to take a flyer on MDZ. Kimmo was a warrior for us but I'd like to assess the team minus him going forward |

Wow, what is most important is that Kimmo is ok. Secondary is the FACT that the Flyers organisation has a Vodoo curse on it. If he doesn't come back it is cap hell. Maybe good for Morin?
Again the most important thing is Kimmo gets better for his own sake. - coffee junkie
It's not cap hell at all. In fact if he misses part of the season, it helps out with the cap. And I agree, hopefully he is okay.

Yes other GM's realize the Flyers D isn't the best, but my point is that it just got worse.
I know Homer spent money on AMac but trades could have been made. Maybe he did kick some tires but the bottom line is the D was not improved.
The 6 we had last year were not good enough to get it done and it would not have been better this year with the same guys. |

Serious question. If the Flyers wanted to sign Del Zotto right now would they get him on a one year cheap deal (I think we have 1.3 available if Pronger is on LTIR before the season) or do we let Kimmo retire and then use that extra 2M? And let's say he is signed is it:
Coburn- Streit
AMAC- Schenn
Grossman- MDZ
??? - coffee junkie
There is no let Kimmo retire! Why would he retire?

Pronger could voluntarily give it up. It's happened before. I think Daigle gave up #19 when Renberg came back. - jmatchett383
Couturier took 14 while Laperierre was on LTIR for a season |

If Hextall sticks to his guns, no it won't. I don't see him hitting the panic button to rush one of these guys if they aren't ready. |
