Do you think you guys will take a run at MDZ for a cheap 1m contract if you are able to move Versteeg and Rozi? Or are you going with with Runblad on the 3rd pairing?

I find it weird Del Zotto isn't signed and it feels like hes waiting for a team like you guys or Boston to become cap compliant first

- DDM-Coga

There are way too many offensive types, or older veterans who could be in the mix for a bottom 5-6 spot on defense. Leddy stands out in front of veterans. like Rosy and perhaps Brookbank. Youngsters whom are prone to mistakes and most playing an offensive style include: Rundblad, Johns, Comiskey. There is also Dahlbeck and he might just turn out better than the others. Therefore, it would be non sensible to bring in another dman like MDZ.

Just to bring him here means clearing a couple of players. And MDZ has issues playing sound defensively. You get that too with some of the guys I mentioned for a 5/6 slot, so MDZ just gives you another for Q to not trust.

He fits as well as Clendenning does right now. And Clendenning could improve but he won't likely get time here unless a lot of injuries. And you mention MDZ...........forget about him. Just my two cents.

Wasn't Oduya still in the walking boot at the convention? If so, will he be ready for the start of the season? If not, Stan doesn't have to make a move now. Oduya starts the year on LTIR and Stan can wait until Oduya is almost ready to go and some teams have seen what they're lacking in the early part of the season.
- NewToHockey

Does anyone make moves in November?

If they keep him on LTIR for very long, they might as well move him.

JJ said he hopes the fans are patient with TT.

I'm hoping Stan and Q are patient - not forcing him up before he's ready - no matter how bad things may get in Chicago (if they do - not suggesting they will).

I think Versteeg will be showcased in camp. As SB said, the Hawks don't have to be under the cap until the start of the season. He'll be showcased and if he shows the knee is healthy then someone may bite.

For those who think Oduya is the odd man out, let's not forget he's coming off a foot injury so at this point, no one knows what he'll be.

JJ am I reading too much into your blog? Didn't Sharp have a shoulder injury late last season and in the PO? You didn't wish him in the section of players who need health and healing. Are you hinting that Sharp will be the big salary gone before opening game?

Sharp to NYI for Josh Bailey and 2015 2nd.

- powerenforcer

I really like anders lee from NYI. He looked really good late last season with Bailey.

That is exactly what they´ve said all the time about him. That´s why they went after Kesler and got Richards. Media and fans are usually the impatient ones.

I have to say that JJ comparing TT to Alexei Zhamnov is the best and most accurate one I´ve ever seen Imo. Not saying that he will as good but his style reminds a lot of Zhamnov´s game. A lot more than Kane´s or Datsyuk´s.

Please share this with those who claim I know nothing, hate TT, etc.

The Archie comparison is because of how he dangles and recognizes. Also a smooooooth, refined player like Archie was.

Zhamnov was the face of the collapse of the franchise and the textbook example of what happens when you get rid of a key core player for a guy who is a step or two or three down or one of those prospects who is a prospect because he's accomplished nothing in the nhl

I understand that was not the point of the comparison but that guy was the embodiment of what a loser looks like.........he was a ghost

I never appreciated Zhamnov much (esp after he was traded for Roenick) until I saw him play live. He and Nylander were about as smooth a pair of centers as you will find in any era. Unfortunately, they played for the Hawks during the clutch and grab era.

Yeah....I don't think Oduya goes anywhere this year, Johnny is part of the next run
and despite whatJJ thinks, I also think Rosival is a steal at his pay if a team loses a top six guy or realizes someone they thought WAS one, is one.
Now Versteeg gets more bites after he looks more like post knee injury Versteeg, so that would men a nice showing in tranning camp and then there will be interest.

I just don't see the corner being small that you are all painting the Hawks into...if push comes to show there are plenty botton end standing teams with roomy Caps who would value a third rounder as part of the Hawk package to take a rostered player

- wiz1901

I think I have to agree with you on Rozy. Q likes his vets and despite Leddy's dog house getting alot of use in the playoffs I think Stan moves Versteeg. A healthy scratch in game 7 of WCF and playing a non heady game have nothing to do with his knee. A 3rd - 4th round draft pick from the Island or Buffalo gets either team a vet with something to prove at minimal money and term. Is it difficult for SB sure but he has done good in the past.

Anyone can fight and lose. The Hawks just don't. We have some edgy players. Bic , Seabrook, Shaw, even Sharp and Smith. Hossa is no pushover and Towes has proved he has a backbone. Fighting for now is on the decline, hope it does not disappear tho.

Not to mention when the team really sucked. Luckily for TT there is A LOT of talent on this team. Now and for a long time

Has anyone heard even a peep from teams interested in Brookbank or from his camp? He played so well when called upon in the po's I'm suprized someone has not gobbled him up yet.

What are your winger prospect like? Would you ever move Teravainen to the Wing? Morin could make the big jump for an increased role? Hartman close in his development?

It will be interesting to see if any of those young guys take the next step in their development. Would make it a lot easier to move out Sharp for Cap reasons if you have a young guy ready to take his spot instead of trying to find a cheaper replacement for him via Trade.

- DDM-Coga

I'd really like to see Morin take the next step. With Bollig having been moved, there's a perfect chance for Morin to fill the roster spot. Not necessarily the role, but a spot, 3rd line checker.

I would see Teravainen as a winger before centre, especially this year with Richards in place. After 14-15, it's TBD.

I think the stance will be to keep Sharp now for 14-15. I really thought that there could be a trade in the works back before UFA opened. Obviously nothing matured to that point for SB. Unless something big is thrown his way, Sharp will be here for 14-15 and SB will have to make other moves (someone like Leddy, Rozsival, Versteeg...).

When he showed up...

I hope you're right on the dangles and recognizes part. But flipside, I'd rather see the work ethic of the guy who was traded for Archie.

Anyone else have the feeling Brad Richards isnt going to put up very many points this season? I know everyone says "bargain this, bargain that" but I have a bad feeling about it.

Who cares? Why is it important that anybody fight? Let's have a guy who's best at sitting in the box for 5 minutes. I hear John Scott might available.
