This isn't necessarily my opinion, but the more I think about the situation the more I think Leddy stays. I don't think Stan will give up on Leddy's potential and there are too many examples of contracts out there that Stan can use as examples to keep Leddy for a reasonable price.

So who is the odd man out and what would you hope for in return?

Can we please add Versteeg and get some skate sharpeners and an extra seat at the draft table during the 4th round next year?

Sebrook. Must have on defense this season. Especially alarming to myself since he is one of the truly capable physical dmen.

Now I see Brendan Dillon is not signed....at least not yet.

If Chicago was not going for the Cup with this group of core players one last time, then I would explore a Seabrook for Dillon transaction.

Obviously fitting players with huge salaries into their slot - eg. a # 1 or #2 dman can not make in excess of "x" dollars - is going to become an especially tricky equation for Bowman to solve next summer.

Seabrook name has been whispered as someone whom might reluctantly be moved due to salary cap issues. No way, huh? So if Toews and Kane aren't going, and Hjalmarsson is a bargain, what still top core player conceivably would be chopped?

D Keith? As much as I am disturbed by his gaffes and inconsistency some seasons past, nonetheless he is the leader or most important cog on the blueline. Oh how some if us bloggers yearn for the all around game plus size and toughness which Seabrook does possess. Myself included in this group. Seabrook and Keith seperated on defense pairs happens, but separated as teamates permanently?

But I just wonder what the salary cap will be after this upcoming season. Someone other than Sharp has to go? More on this below.

An up and coming team yet still ...well not exactly bereft on defense ( but it is their Achilles heel) is the Dallas Stars.

They would not let Dillon get away. Nil has already proven an astute and shrewd GM and merely a freshman tenure in his position. But he was groomed in the Detroit Red
Wings operation and according to an article on hockeybuzz which touched upon Nill, this GM combines old school with the modern emphasis on analytical approach of tracking of statistical information. He knows what Dillon is worth.

So what is Dillon worth both now and a year later?

I do not see Dillon moved for Seabrook. A year from now would it make sense? Don't know. But I do know others - such as Wiz- saw Dillon developing into a top rookie dman this season. Who knows what the future holds. Other than Sharp is here only one more season. And next summer at latest either Leddy and or Oduya will be gone.

Rozsival for a late round pick.

In Chicago Rozy is a part time defenseman who's play is diminishing due to his age and style of play over his career. Rozsival has been a warrior and important part of our last Cup run. However, Father Time has caught up to #32 and at this point he's the easiest to replace. I'd love to keep Rozsival as the #7 defenseman but our cap situation doesn't allow for it

That's fine too. The real benefit would be the salary cap relief anyway. Last season Rozsival had a full no movment clause. This season it's just a modified no trade clause so there are options.

Sharp goes well before Seabrook does. Seabs has 2 years left on this deal and he'll spend both of them in Chicago. Seabrook will be about 31 when this deal ends, I know nothing is guaranteed but I'd love to see Seabrook play his entire career for us.

Waivers - if he clears, Hawks can only bury $900,000 of his cap hit.

I too hope that Seabrook plays his entire career here. With some players requiring a greater salary after next season, it is prudent to plan ahead for possible plan(s) of action with regard to fitting the most desirable players possible within the salary cap. How many dollars going to Salad, and what might Kruger and Shaw deserve? Most on this board appear to be saying Sharp and a dman between Leddy & Oduya will depart. When next playoffs there should be an indication if another high price player like Seabrook would possibly be under consideration to be moved. Bowman may not have a lot of choices. When receiving less than giving in a trade due to salary cap hell (like year 2010), I would be glad if Dillon came back If (a big "if") Seabrook had to go.

Dillon has alot of good upside as well as fantastic size. Could potentially be another Seabrook. With Dallas young core I cant see them doing a straight up trade and getting older.

Keith just won his second Norris, he isnt going anywhere, its too much of a marketing chip.

Leddy for Dillon could work at this juncture. Leddy is the kind of defensman other teams need to begin emulating the hawks style of speed and quickness on the backend.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see Dallas lending a helping hand to Chicago's cap situation via trade. Nor can I see any other team in the division lining up to help out Bowman.

FWIW, I've read on the web that Dallas would love to move Gonchar and would eat half his salary. If (and I'm stretching the word "if" as far as it possibly can be stretched) Dallas were to make a deal with Chicago, I'd have to think Gonchar would have to be involved with any deal if Dallas were make within the division involving someone like Dillion.

Good points EK. Honestly the trade front and rumor mill has been awfully quiet in regards to the hawks. I dont really count eklunds rumors as legit. Id love to see a move that gets rid of Sharp and brings in a bottom six (3c) that could relieve Shaw of his Center duties. He gave it a run but I think he is more effective on the wing. Shaw playing with Toews and Hossa could really spread our tenacity to the top six.

I was discussing this with another poster a few weeks back. The idea that did come up was that Bowman might wait until training camp starts to make a move. If someone goes down injured, the demand for someone like Oduya, Leddy, or Rozsival may increase then.
