The camera may not always capture it, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
- Ogilthorpe2

Well the cameras certainly caught it when Backes crosschecked Hossa from behind after he scored that goal in St. Louis in the playoffs - basically putting Hossa into the net. You don't see a guy like Toews doing that kind of crap. Really don't think Backes needs to play that way, but he does...and as mentioned as long as the league is going to let it go. It's not going to change.

And to sidestep the argument for a moment Carcus I hope your family is doing well. I know its been a pretty trying few months for you...

Now back to my own personal nightmare...my Terrier mix got nailed by a skunk tonight and decide to run into the house. He's tough little guy, but got it right in the face...

Well put it this way:

Move leddy -2.7 mil
Add one of nelson/strome +900k

Waive versteeg, -900k (if he clears) (full hit if claimed)

At the end of the day you are clearing anywhere from 2.7 to 4 mil depending on the waiver outcome

Then I would keep TT in minors and call up dahlbeck or someone for the extra d spot

- FourFeathers773

Why sign another vet when we have 11 young guys in Rockford, plus Rundblad?? If we move two defensemen then bring back Brookbank, if we move one, bring a hog up (best of Dahlbeck, Johns, Cumiskey, or Clendening).

You are going to have one poopty summer if that don't trade him. You should buy a Sharp jersey just to make sure it happens.

Yes, Backes had done plenty after the whistle.

But listen, every single player has done their share as well. Don't pretend like it is just Blues players. NHLrs are competitive, and do things all the time to get under the skin of opponents.

Guess what, Toews has cross checked people before. Even slashed as well. Maybe a slew foot or two. None of them are saints. Well, lady Bing candidates are close. Still not saints though.

And right now, my family couldn't be better. Alexander came home from the NICU on Friday. He is doing great. We won't know a lot of the long term issues he will likely have until later, but so far he has full leg movement, the fluid around the brain speed increasing (after the surgery and has held at a safe level ever since), basically the best case scenario for him.

Even if we disagree about David Backes being a huge douche, I appreciate all the support you guys have shown.

Ok. So Backes is dirty in the shadows.

Shadows that everyone sees, so everyone knows he is a douche. So not in the shadows since everyone sees them.

- carcus

No offense, but we all know what Ogi means. Backes likes to take shots constantly that are not called. A lot of them are after the whistle, other player's back turned, that the officials rarely call. Backes and Hitch believe this is tough or gets teams off their game. Maybe? But mainly it is just dirty and cheap.

"Subtle".... making use of clever and indirect methods to achieve something.

You are arguing the semantics here simply to distract from the main argument - Backes is a decent 2C or wing that plays over the line too much (in our opinion). He got a wake up call from Seabs (pun intended). We will see if he adjusts his game. I doubt it as Backes apparently thinks what he does constitutes some form of leadership.

Leddy for Martin would be so great.
- mrpaulish

Agree with Wiz it would be an overpayment talent wise but it nets the Hawks about $2m in cap relief and gives them that hitting/toughness element they need.

Of course, the Isles faithful seem to think Nielsen should bring Saad and a high 1st rounder and Martin should net them Leddy, TT and Kane's unborn children. Considering what we saw from Rags posters there must be something in the water in NY.

And before anyone says that's an overpayment, remember, we don't have much leverage here

We have to sweeten the pot more to either get a quality player back or a very good prospect

IMO leddy and a first for strome would be ideal if snow gaffes

Leddy and a first for neilsen is worth it because he's another legit 2c option

Leddy and a first for nelson is worth it because he is another really good Young center talent that played well at the NHL level on a bad team

Also have to consider we need to over pay for players that will be cheap for the next couple years for our roster flexibility

- FourFeathers773

Nielsen makes $2.75 thru 16. Leddy plus a 1st would increase our cap. Another roster player (Versteeg?) would have to go somehow.

Leddy plus a 1st would be an overpayment for a 30 year old but worth it if that 1st would get Snow to take another salary we don't want.

Glad to hear about Alexander.

On the huge douche called Backes topic. Yes, many (not all) players do take an occasional liberty. Some make it a defining component of their game night in and night out. Backes/LaPierre/Ott/Jackman/Reaves all are these types of players.

Over do it and the officials may start calling it at the wrong time like round 1 this year. It should have impacted your chances in that series even more. Way too much was not called.

Of course, I think the amount of penalties not called defined this year's playoffs. Worst officiating in a number of years.

Thank you Mr. Walkom.

All,

I realize we all have our differences from time to time but I would ask that you keep St. Louis or at least the north county and city in your thoughts. Hopefully no one was seriously hurt tonight in the looting and rioting. The losses for the businesses is plenty enough to be sad about much less any serious injuries. I'm very disappointed of the weekend's events but unfortunately not surprised as I go to bed tonight.

Sexist! Not only do they shovel worse but they are in the way and clueless about the team. I'm starting another petition.

Every ice girl must memorize each player's Corsi/Fenwick ratings from the previous game before putting on their pants and jacket.

I just don't think the Islanders are offering Strome or 3rd liner Nelson in trades when they haven't been able to trade away the guys that they have that are not in their plans, like Josh Bailey.

It is very easy to pigeon hole trades but it much more difficult to have them work with the players actually on the market.

Anyway the scouts and GMs are either on vacation or on their way to Ivan Hlinka tourney so calls really don't start going on until Labor Day.

This isn't necessarily my opinion, but the more I think about the situation the more I think Leddy stays. I don't think Stan will give up on Leddy's potential and there are too many examples of contracts out there that Stan can use as examples to keep Leddy for a reasonable price.
