Amazingly, Bates was okay. "Shoutout to Warrior for making Russian-proof helmets that saved me from a concussion," she tweeted, along with video of the attack, uploaded by a family member.

55+% on faceoffs, terrific defensive center, can play on any of three lines, great along the wall (pound for pound as good as anyone in the league) and has upside. Who replaces that? Danault? When? - John Jaeckel
Kruger goes nowhere....he is still young....great on D...is only going to get better on offense...and he plays C...which the Hawks are short at...they don't have many Cs let alone good ones like Kruger...he isn't going anywhere imo...and anyone who says what to do with Danault....well...first the kid has to prove he can play, and I really like the kid and hope he pans out...and even if he does, you can always throw him on the W too...Kruger stays |

This isn't a question of what attributes Kruger brings to a team but a question of cap space. Paying a 4th line center 2.5 to 3 million a season is a luxury the Hawks will not be able to afford until the cap rises.
It also comes down to what is easier to replace from within the organization. A 3-4 line center or one of the best #2 D-man in the game.
The Hawks have a slew of players projected as bottom 6 players but no D-men that project as top pairing players.
If at the end of the day the decision comes down to giving Seabrook the money that is equal to the difference between Kruger and an ELC guy, I am taking Seabrook. Every time. |

Maybe on Florida. Is he a player that is good to have? Yes. But he is nothing more than a fourth line center. I understand the little things he does. But that is all he really brings to the table and thus he is a typical fourth line player. On the topic of Sharp, Saad will replace him in a roster sense on the first line, but why wouldnt they let TT get his licks at wing to start. It takes the defensive pressure off him and allows him to use that good shot and puck moving ability on his strong wing. Saad was not ready when he was first brought up, neither was Kruger at first, but those guys took their lumps at the NHL level early and are better for it today. - nickmo2699
Um...what? Name another fourth line player under the age of 25 with a silver medal.
Kruger doesn't play on the fourth line because he's not good enough to play elsewhere, he plays on the fourth line because he makes the players on that line better. Using him as a fourth line center is a luxury, not a necessity. Kruger isn't a "typical fourth line player" any more than Andrew Ladd was a typical third line player in 2008-2010. |

At $3MM+? - not out of the realm of possibility - a luxury.
It's a hard cap league - choices and decisions must be made: Keuger or Seabrook - or Saad?

Agreed. Kruger could easily be a 3C on almost any team in the league. If Stan can find another 4C then Krugs could move up to the 3rd line and most of us would be happy. If our 4th line ends up being Versteeg-Kruger-Smith that will be by far the best 4th line in the league and would one of the better 3rd lines. |

If Kruger gets $3 million then he gets more responsibility too. Just because he gets $2.5 - $3 million that doesn't mean his ice time can't go up. |

I don't think it would come down to a Seabrook vs Kruger situation. I would expect solid cap growth for the next few years which will help ease the cap pain. I think Stan will do what he can to keep the most balanced lineup he can and not go with just a top heavy forward unit. I would much rather lose Sharp than keep him and sacrifice the bottom 6.
I still believe Kruger is more valuable to this team than most people think. I know he's not an offensive juggernaut but he plays extremely well in every other aspect of the game. If we take Kruger off the team what happens to our PK? The likes of Toews and Hossa would be overworked.
In the playoffs last year Kruger's ice time increased almost 2 minutes per game. I bet that trend continues into next regualr season. |

I love Krüger, but a top pairing D-man (or even top 4 if he begins slipping) is more valuable than a bottom 6C. But like you said, I doubt I comes down to an either/or situation between these two.
As for the highlighted portion, I couldn't agree more...but then you already knew that |

We all know that sacrifices will have to be made because of the salary cap. While I am a Sharp fan I think dealing him makes the most sense. We shed the 3rd biggest cap hit on the team and we have plenty of wingers in the system that can help replenish the ranks. Plus, I think Sharp would bring the biggest return. I'm not saying I want Sharp to go or that he should be the only one to go but it makes sense.
Who knows what Krugs will want in his next deal, but $2 - $2.5 million would be fair. Afterall, he did have more points than Dustin Brown last season. |

In a hard cap league DK, every decision affects every player. PK guys will and can be found.
Again. This isn't a reflection of the value I believe Kruger brings to a team. Its more the value of the role it plays in making decisions on how to utilize cap space.
And until the cap rises to around the 80 mil mark, the Hawks will have to move players they would prefer to keep. |

Sharp may have to go because of the dollars, but (Ogi's view aside) to think that a legitimate experienced top-6 forward is more easily replaced than any bottom-6 forward in the system is absurd.
Who are these "plenty of wingers" that take his place? Seems to me that Rockford is well-stocked with bottom sixers maybe (MAYBE) ready for the show - but no one is saying there's any top sixers down there (TT possibly excepted).
Sharp goes - Bickell on top line or Shaw. Maybe that works out - no guarantees.
Sharp may gave to go, but he won't be that easily replaced. |

TT shouldn't be excepted. He is even more unproven than Shaw is at this point. |

No matter what Stan does there are no guarantees. All he can do is make the moves that help create the most balance lineup. Moving a $5.9 million contract will help with that. Don't get me wrong, I like Sharp and am not in a rush to move him, nor am I saying trade Sharp so we can keep Kruger. It's about moving a big contract to have cap space for depth. Maybe Bickell gets moved ahad of Sharp, who knows. I know that I wouldn't want to see another version of the team where the top half of the roster is great and the bottom half is crap, look hwo that worked out in 10/11, we barely made the playoffs. |
