I think you misspelled Johnny Boychuk's name, but that's ok I knew what you meant! You've got yourself a deal.

I don't think there is a "pro" and "anti" stats division. It's more like some disagreement over just how much weight to put behind them, blown out of proportion and exaggerated like everything else today to make it seem like it's the supremely enlightened versus knuckle draggers. I'm certainly guilty...I think some people go overboard with the stats to the point where it feels like they want you to gouge out your own eyes if they lead you to a different conclusion than a stat readout, but that's probably just an exaggeration of my own.

You said they're a tool. Agreed...but I'd say basic stats (G, A, Pts, etc.) are like a screwdriver: useful and familiar, with little chance of serious injury, and you know when you should and shouldn't use one. The advanced stats are like a chainsaw: definitely useful, but a bit more dangerous in the hands of someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Also really cool and when you first get your hands on one, every piece of wood looks like something that needs to be sawed in half. I think it'll be better when the shine wears off and the chainsaw is put away, only to be taken out when it's actually appropriate...and that's not in an unnecessary debate about the merits of Peter Regin's time as an Islander.

Why did we sign Conacher again.. and why is he not discussed in any scenario?
- niteislander

It seems like Conacher was signed after Garth struck out with his primary targets day 1 of free agency, but before he knew he could be in the running in landing the Grabovski-Kulemin package deal. I'm sure the Isles would not have signed Conacher nor would have Conacher signed with the Isles if both parties knew what was in store on day 2.

My guess is, barring injuries or trades, Conacher will have to beat out either Lee or Strome to make the team. If not, he will be taken by another team in the waiver draft and for once it will be the Isles that have too much NHL-level talent to clear waivers.

That's the only thing I can think of as far as reasoning for signing Conacher. That he was insurance in case he couldn't land Grabo/Kulemin.

I can't think of anywhere in this lineup that he fits.

That is going to cut it though. Of course this is an exaggeration to make my point, but if Bailey can go out there and prevent the other team from touching the puck for 13 minutes out of 60 that's putting us at a huge advantage to win the game. That means if guys like Tavares and the other skill players can do their job and score..and Halak and the defense can do their job...then we would be highly likely to win.

It's an old, annoying, and overplayed adage...but the other team can't score if they don't have the puck.

- eichiefs9

Rob Schremp could dangle with the best of them. he was pretty quick. Probably as capable of ragging the puck and playing keep away as many guys in the NHL can. why are they in the league and Schremp isn't? Because Schremp couldn't get on the scoresheet.

Barroway sick of Wang's s**t or do we have a higher bid? Hopefully this team is sold immediately.

No chance. Unbelievable. Snow will probably announce the four year extension for capuano today to brighten our day further. I really wonder if the thing that held up this deal was barroway wanting to bring his own people in?

That's wild...guy met the absurd asking price of an owner who says he wishes he never bought the team, and a deal still can't get done. Would love to know the crazy details of the negotiation

I always considered the 'wishes he never bought the team' more pandering for public sympathy than anything.

In fact, I'm willing to bet that Wang still isn't sure he actually wants to sell the team and Barroway has left the table to search for other options. There had been news that there was another, more likely, buyer out there. Perhaps this is a sign that was true.

I still have a hard time believing Charles will sell.

Well, it's like a kid telling the parents "I wish I was never born".

Wang said that at a time where the Lighthouse failed and rumors of the team moving were elevating. To say he 'wouldn't have bought them" had he to do it all over was stoking those fears, likely for leverage.....as desperate as it may have been.
