Marc Bergevin spoke to Subban and his agent and he said "Look guys, I want to give you 72mil over 8 years, but I need your help to sell it to the fans so they don't hate on Subban too much, how do we do that?"
Meehan came up with a plan, go on vacation, continue summer as usual and wait till arbitration. At the arbitration meeting they ordered pizza and played monopoly till they felt that enough time has passed and Marc left not wanting to speak to reporters and PK said his speech that he has been rehearsing for the last month.
Next day, contract is signed and most of the spot light is on Marc Bergevin instead of Subban who is now the richest defenceman in the league.
Everyone did their part and it got done in a way that takes pressure off of Subban.
It was a brilliant plan and it was executed perfectly.

One of my friends just bought one like that in Saguenay. 125K, house has been abandonned for 1½ years...lots of small things to do everywhere but nothing really major. It's worth it when you got people who know how to do stuff helping you. |
