The classic "I can't be racist, I have a black friend."
- braidan

Yes. In response to "you are a racist if you don't like a black player" See the similarity there?

If you want to dumb it down like that, there's no point in discussing it. Not at all a fair representation of what actually happened.
- EricEngels

N'importe quoi, you dont know more than we do what what said and done behind the scene...

Words is PK agent was asking for a bit more than 10M at first glance. I agree with the previous comments here that it should not be pin on Bergevin alone !

PK ego's is Pk ego.... Now go justify this contract #76 with the 25th...

Do you think I did? I stand by every single thing I said on Friday. I was adamant that if this thing amounted to a one-year settlement decided by the arbiter, that was a gross failure and some real bad business. To me, there were only two options after the arb hearing: Sign him to the deal he wants or trade him. There was no, let's re-evaluate in 6 months. No, let's sign him next summer. There was no point of return from where arbitration would've taken them had the ruling come down.

Someone came up to me this weekend and said, "I think Bergevin's a genius," and then said "you see!". Nothing genius about it. They could've signed him on Friday to the same deal he signed on Saturday. They made a play and the play failed and hurt both sides.

And, as I mentioned in my blog, it's disappointing we haven't heard from Bergevin. Because he should be trumpeting this new deal and reinforcing the idea that this was all just tough business. That will inevitably happen, but if you think he didn't take some of this personally as well, you're deluded.

- EricEngels

Why should he take it personally? If he does he is in the wrong business. It was ok to play his cards the way he did 2 years ago? But now it's not ok for Subban to play his cards?

Subban and Meehan called Bergevins Bluff. I would of done the same knowing Bergevin had nothing, while Subban was carrying pocket Aces.

Molson stepped in. MB wouldn't have caved on his own. He was told to give it to PK.

I agree. Bergevin seems to have Pride issues, he's as arrogant as they come. Moslon stepped in and said pay the man.

Don't know why people are complaining about the Subban contract, and saying he is overpaid. People don't understand the difference between the new cba and the old one.

Next year, Subban (the highest paid habs in history) will be the 39th most paid player in the NHL at 7 mil. Half the Salary of Shea Weber at 14 mil. And still far behind Crosby at 12mil.

Yeah for having a GM that's ready to do his job and keep the contracts in check.

That's fine and not the issue. But the notion of Bergevin being bitter about the end result is pointless.

You see that Bergevin will have to be very creative next season... not a lot of cap space available.

Can I ask at what age Subban would have been a free agent, had Bergevin signed him 2 years ago?

I think Bergevin is doing fine. Subban will be a Hab for the best part if not all of his hockey career.

Wouldn't be surprise to see Plekanec traded for some young players or draft choices to make some place of Galchenyuk.

He's got to find a way to get rid of Moen's salary.

10M + for now and the cap should go up a couple of millions.

He will need to be a bit creative. Maybe unloading Bourque, Moen will help.

IF so, you can expect a similar salary coming back
