All I've had to do to get females I've been around interested was take them to a game. Watching a game on TV is the worst way to introduce the sport to somebody, and it will likely kill their enthusiasm and put it behind the eight ball to start with. I've never taken someone who hasn't seen a game, and have them come out anything but a fan. If the teams really cared, work out ways to get tickets into women's hands for cheap. Have ladies nights or something, but you have to get them into an arena (in good seats) for them to even begin to care.

Find any guy that gives two poops and I'll find you 3 legged ballerina.

That comment would definitely prove her point about hockey being an elitist sport.

You better show me a 3-legged ballerina because I care. I have 3 girls who all love hockey. Why? Because I explain it to them thereby making it enjoyable to watch. Lack of knowledge is the big disconnect and that knows no gender line.

Yeah, I get it, my comment was more satirical than anything. But my main point was really surrounding some of Dee's argument. Why do women need to be targeted in some special way to make them feel better about being fans of what historcially has been a male dominated sport?

So female fans need to be specially catered to in order for them to enjoy the sport of hockey? You either like the sport or you don't, isn't really just that simple?!

Your girls are interested in it because hockey IS popular among both genders in the new era of hockey. Why do we need to create some sort of new "womens libber" atmosphere where women are once again crying for equal treatment? But now because more females are recognized as real life hockey fans, Ice girls should be considered offensive? I'm all for the positive change and evolution of all things human, but my god, what else can women find to female dog about now days?

Guess we need to take away the women's right to vote, not allow them in the workplace, maybe just whore them all out to the highest bidder. Or do you not think even that highly of women?

Good points. I can respect this and the intelligence behind the opinion unlike the idiots just trying to get a rise out of people.

Just to add to my points... Other evidence that Womens demographs do not need special targeting is right here in Minnesota. U of M spent over $20 million on the U of M's womens hockey programs Ridder Arena. Because apparently the Gophers Mariucci arena wasn't good enough to hold mens AND womens games. Perfect example that strides have been sought out and acheived in the advancement of the sport in regards to gender equalization.

Maybe more games in the kitchen would help.

Or team branded ironing boards.

After reading this article, although I don't care if the NHL is trying to market women's items or not, I knew this would catch the attention of some of the "boys" on here to make idiotic comments trying to be funny... You must really hate women watching hockey or even sitting next to you at a game. God forbid you ever take a girl on a date to a game, I feel bad for her already.

I feel bad for you since you can't pick up on a little off-color humor. Grow your skin a little thicker, baby.

As far as women attending games and sitting next to me, you should have seen how utterly miserable I was at the Isles/Rags Stadium Series game that my girlfriend bought me tickets for and accompanied me to.

There's a big confusion between marketing and merchandising.

The NHL doesn't try to market it's brand by selling pink t-shirts or bikinis of teams logos, they try to make money off the fans they currently have.

The NFL does everything they can to attract more viewers, especially woman, during the Superbowl. In attempts to do so, they actually annihilate their current viewers (from Britney Spears to Beyonce). The problem with that is, most people watching the Superbowl are not interested in the game. They don't even watch it, especially the women. It's about the party, and to talk about something the next day.

Sports is something you like or you don't. It's the pride, competitiveness, something you can't really describe, but if you like it, you don't need Facebook or Access Hollywood.

The woman who don't currently watch hockey are not going to start watching it because they market to woman.

You market sports. Woman and men will watch because they have a winning team and it's the biggest thing in town. So what you do is grow the game in general.

There are millions of men who don't watch hockey but love sports. Why would the NHL concentrate on the woman who likely don't even care for sports to begin with.
