No doubt. So you like this contract. You believe Subban should be the highest paid defenceman in the NHL? |

Is $9 Million fair? Not sure about that, but if the cap continues to rise, it should be ok for the Habs. If there is another lockout??? This contract would definitely affect how you build your core moving forward. |

Yup paying your best player with the bigger salary is a new trend created by Bervegin!
Don't worry about the 9M$, in 3 years, when guys like Doughty will resign PK won't be the highest paid dman. Just a matter of timing for now. |

Fair or not fair is irrelevant. Plenty of teams were ready to give him more. Habs had no choice but to sign him. The risk of PK going UFA in 2 years was to high. If they signed him to a one year deal, they would of had to trade him. If they trade if with a one year deal, they never get full value cause the acquiring team cannot guarantee they sign PK. PK is the Habs best player period (Price not included). Now give him the C and let's move on. Habs still need another top 6 forward. |

Agreed, but i don't see it happen before season starts. They will want to see what the kids can do first. They will also rely on scoring by commitee as the 3 first lines are balanced. I could see a deal happen by december though. |

No need for the sarcasm... I get he was going to be the highest paid on the team and yes you have him locked up for 8 years... as far as asset management, it was obviously worth it to keep him and of course you have to give to get.
Your argument assumes the CBA will be the same in 8 years from now where salaries will most likely rise. Are you certain of this?
Bottom line, he had to get paid due to taking the bridge deal or this would have exploded in MB's face, but wow.... $9 million AAV.......

Ok. Point taken. It looks like the current CBA is good until 2021-2022. I was under the impression it expired earlier....

Galchenyuk has to setup up this year (if Therrien gives him some real ice time). Eller had to be the player he was in the playoffs (Not sure he can carry that for a full season) and Parrenteau has to score 25+. |

Why is the subban contract going to lead to a lockout?
The cba fight was to get the split to 50/50 and it did that
How a team spends to the cap - that's their business
The current cba will lead to the elimination of the middle salary ground
We are seeing this with the rash of 1.5m and less signings this past summer
The number of these type of contracts signed will increase every off season
Look at the top heavy leafs roster - many 1.5 or less signings |

Yeah, it's good until september 2022. It's all good, i'm happy with the contract wish he signed for 64M but the extra million will be more and more digestible as the seasons go. |

Only concern with 27 is the ice time he'll get. He needs and deserves more responsabilities offensively. He has top line material written all over. |

I don't play games, "Devils Advocate" or the "What If" card. Simply put,Subban should say I'm done playing here! He took a great contract for Montreal last time and how do they reward him, LOW BALLING? Stay classy Montreal - twpguy

Those of you who post that Subban is terrible defensively need to stop posting because you're embarrassing yourselves. It's the same logic people use to say that Dion phaneuf is terrible. It's s implement equation. You take an aggressive defenseman with terrific offensive instincts. You isolate the mistakes that his aggressiveness invariably leads to. You combine that with fans who base their opinions of players on how much they hate the team they play for, and presto. You have an overrated, overpaid plug. Subban and to a lesser extend Phaneuf are perfect examples of this phenomenon. |

Montreal will struggle offensively this year, barring huge leaps from Galchenyuk/Eller and as uprising contribution from a guy like Sekac or DLR. Don't see any of that happening. Maybe Galchenyuk. But Montreal will rely on goaltending and a bigger, more mobile defence to be successful up. Bringing in guys like Gilbert and Beaulieu doe gorges and Murray/ Bouillon should help the possession game. |

not a pk fan or of his contract. however the market says the price should have been in the 8 mil range per year. if the flyers were to pay him this much to secure him for 8 years i would feel no different than i do now. had to pay what they had to pay to ensure he did not walk next year for nothing. guy is a top 10 dman in the league (mostly because of offensive output). Try naming 10 guys you would rather have them him on d. here is how i rank the top 10: weber, keith, karlson, suter, doughty, subban, pietrangelo, heidman, chara, seabrook |
