8M$ in 2020 and 2021 will be a very affordable elite 33 y-o veteran d-man

Funny how yesterday almost every leaf fans were bating to the idea of signing Subban in Toronto when UFA in 2 years... then today he's back to a mi-tier D-man

And if we got him, we'd be stoked for 1 yr. Then hate him until we were ready to convince you that your team should trade for him

No, he'd become instantly overrated the day he signed. You know the rules on how this works here.

Exactly.

I guess you won't be wearing your PK's jersey and your back to wearing proudly your Phaneuf's jersey

Greg Zaun said it well a couple games ago. As a player, once management signs you, they immediately start looking for someone to replace you.

Montreal got hosed! No way they can ice a decent team with that contract for that player. Makes Phaneufs contract look like a steal for the leafs.
- Bullot

Such irony.

The big issue is really about age. Subban's contract runs for 8 years, he will be 32 at the beginning of his last year under this contract. Phaneuf is already 29 years old and is just beginning year 1 of a seven year deal.

There are lots of teams that would jump at the chance to get Subban at $9m for 8 years. The Leafs do not seem to be able to find a taker for Phaneuf.

I stand corrected. Its kinda funny because as hab fans call us out for flip flopping, they flopped opposite. Pretty sure i heard "hes not worth 8. Doesnt have the resume. Prob get 5 or 6".

Well, for one, they aren't anywhere near as cool as us. But I did figure he'd get 8.5 so I guess I might was well be an agent or something.

Yeah, I would say most were saying 8x8.
Some give him whatever he wants and some he's not worth it.

8-8.25 was for a 1-year deal. Long term numbers were never discussed; he could have been asking for 8 years 10+ per, we will never know most likely. Had they done a 1-year deal there was a risk of losing the players favor and having to pay out more per year than the 9 he will get. Overall I feel PK should have been 8-8.5 for the same duration, but as the cap rises this hit wont look too bad. Look at it this way, he is easily worth 4 million more than Phaneuf and we got him for only 2 million more than that pylon.

I think what he meant was, Keith gave up some of his effectiveness defensively in order to contribute more offensively. Liability was just poor wording.

Thank you sire, as you are correct.

Was getting pulled out the door to see the guardians of the galaxy with my little sister and my daughter.
Wasn't able to throw out the perfect argument at the time.
But, yes he started more shift in the O zone and wasn't given the shut down role this yr as in yrs past.

But, I heard a lot of Chicago fans harping on him and his turnovers this yr and about how his d partner, seabrook I think, had to cover for him.

What are you guys paying that 7 foot pylon again? I hope he plays next season. It was fun knocking you out of the series last spring, can't wait to do it again...

P.S.
Please have the remaining 2 Stooges in your lineup so we can laugh a lot.

What a (frank)ing bumhole.

I want him traded away so very badly.

Even Bergy punched him in the face this yr. it was by accident but it was great anyways.

we have no idea what he was asking for long term before arbitration. I don't think it was a bad deal for the habs, he's maybe overpaid by 1 million or so but its no big deal. Its not like that extra in cap space would bring in anything other than a 4th liner. I just think its stupid to go to arbitration, low ball the player and tell him all the negative things you see in his game. Then sign him to a long term deal before the arbitrator makes his decision. Waste of time

I think he meant low ball in the arbitration not long term deal. Which he clearly says in his post.
