I think what he meant was, Keith gave up some of his effectiveness defensively in order to contribute more offensively. Liability was just poor wording.

I don't think he gave up any defensive effectiveness. He just had a coach who put him in a better position to contribute more offensively because he had the luxury of a second shut down pair. Individually, Keith is still the best defensive d-man on the Hawks, and top 5 in the league. Nowhere near a defensive liability, the exact opposite actually.
