Even Keith, who just won the Norris this last season, he was not on Chicago's shut down pairing. As Keith, just like the letangs and subbans start off in the offensive zone because they are a d zone liability.

How many times have player signed contract and the hockey universe collectively spit out their cheerios when they saw the money. Only to look at the contract anywhere from 2-4 years down the road and say, that's really not so bad.

Did you just call Duncan Keith a defensive liability? Laughable.

He is one of, if not the very best Defensive D-men in the game. He started more in the offensive zone because the Hawks have the luxury of having two elite shutdown pairs. So it makes more sense to put the most offensively talented of your shutdown guys out their in the offensive zone.
