You can't judge it that way. It isn't the same CBA. - Ryan_Wilson
He's still not worth 9 mil per year, that's for sure. This actually makes letang's salary easier to digest
Edit: looking at the canadiens depth on D, it's very underwhelming. Markov is on his decline and their 2nd/3rd pairing don't look competent enough to do much unless it's against another teams 3rd line |

You're right, he's probably worth 10M per year. |

Ill take Letang at 7.2 vs Subban at 9. Just not worth it IMO. |
|
|
|
Letang - .54 ppg. 422 gp, 261 PIMs
Subban - .58 ppg. 284 gp, 383 PIMs
Not enough for a 1.75 mil difference IMO. Both players have shown they are Norris caliber defensemen, and subban only averaged 40 seconds of PK time per game. Letang had about 2 mins per game. Not saying subban is a bad player, but he doesn't bring to the table what other Dmen do. |
|

|
Cap wise he is but Crosby's first 8 years of his deal will be paying him 86.4M compared to Subban's 72M - Ryan_Wilson
yeah its trend setting for the new cap.... but i feel he is almost as imprtant if not as important as toews/kane to his respective team and he got less. 9 mil should make every pens fan feel beter about tanger |

I didnt have an issue with Tanger's contract from the day he signed it. I thought it was fair value and we were lucky to lock him up. If he could just stay healthy, and stay away from partners like Scuderi... |

Any chance the NHL will release what the arbitration committee would have decided Subban's pay would be if it went to them?
I think even the NHL has to know that EVERYONE is dieing to know how one of these hearings would have went. |

Subban > Letang.... and that is in no way saying Letang is bad. Its like saying Crosby > Malking.
Two very top quality players in their position who are above most anyone else in the league. |

I agree, but I don't think PK is worth 9/yr. The cap will go up, but as shown so will salaries and the increase in cap will not be as helpful. When is the next lockout?
There are still at least 5 dmen I take over PK not including the cap. |

Its a bit based on what the cap is expected to rise up to, yes. But it was either pay up, get the arbitration decision, or lose him.
I think the cap is going to increase 10 mil the next 3 years, which will make his deal easier to swallow. |

10 mil would be pretty steep! I mean the floor is now higher than what the original cap was after the last lockout. If it goes up another 10 in 3 yrs, the small market teams will just keep struggling. |

Well, I am just basing it off of the increase this year. $64.3 million to $70.2 million (if google is right since my memory isn't exact on this).
I don't think its gonna keep up increases that high, but at just over half that increase... 10 million over 3 years is not unreasonable.

I hope Malkin has 3 fighting majors this year and 42 goals. However when he doesn't score for 10 games, and looks like a lazy Russian I will call him that. |

I really don't think subban is better than letang. Similar speed, strength, and shot. I think letang just made bad decisions in a system that made the defense vulnerable. I think the new staff will help make letang more stable in his own zone and reduce his mistakes leading to a top 5 point leader for Dmen this year and a potential Norris nomination |

I'd rather have Letang over Subban. Easy to kick a dog when he's down. I think they are pretty even. Sure Subban had a better year but to me both are good.
Edit: I think they would be outstanding playing on the same pairing. |

The age you start feeling a little bit tired when playing sports lol at least I did
The average age here on this board is probably around 33-34....I'm on this boat. - Barnaby36
41. Got on the "bandwagon" during Mario's rookie year. |

If you would rather... I could say
Subban the last 3 years > Letang's last 3. Or something to that extent.
I don't like doing a potential of a player vs the actual of another comparison. Unless its a rookie vs an aging veteran type of deal where that comparison is the only thing available. |

I don't know about that. Letang was a point per game player during the shortened season and they have had very similar stats for the last 3 years. If letang wasn't injured last year or had that stroke, they would be identical numbers. |

At least you were there for them. I was born in '93, the year after the Mario era Pens won their second cup....... and the last time Notre Dame won a major bowl game...... |
