If Babs ever leaves the Wings, he will not go to the Leafs.
Most of you seem to forget a little issue between Shanahan and Babcock.
Shanahan LEFT the Wings because of Babs. - StargateSG1
Shanahan is very well missed. Now THAT was a true power forward. |

PK will sign a 1 or 2 year deal...worth 1 year $8 million 2 year $15 million. He will walk in 2 years time....what would you do if you took a bridge deal, won the Norris trophy and Gold Medal and then were offered the same money as Kyle Quincey??
He walks! - Kinggilmour

We will see. To replace Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franson, Kronwall, and to a lesser extent Cleary, Bettuzzi etc without the benefit of high draft picks will not be easy.
Seems to me they have hung on too long to an aging core. But what the hell do I know, I am a Leafs fan still hoping for miracles since 1967 - Rang
Franzen, Zetterberg and Kronwall are early 30's aren't they? They've got plenty of hockey left in them....you already want them traded and replaced?? Come on bro, Zetterberg (when healthy) is still dominant, as is Datsyuk. These guys aren't done yet.
Like it or not, it's not the Detroit model. They didn't trade away Yzerman or Lidstrom for some prospects and I doubt they'll do the same with Datsyuk/Zetterberg. They grow their talent, guys like Nyquist, Tatar and Dekeyser will be ready to lead the team when those guys retire. |

Sorry, there is no truth to the BabcockShanahan issue....hate to break it to you, Babcock will be behind the leafs bench next season. He will get $5 million a season and given a chance with a young team to compete. Not to mention, be surrounded by the media which he loves!
Shanahan left becuase the Rangers gave him $4 million dollars to play there, he wanted to get back to his "roots" and went on to play for the Devils. |

And right behind them Mantha, Sproul, Mrazek, Ouelette, etc. Wings will be ok in the future. Just need a future number one center. |

TML kept all of Clarkson's contract since no team would touch that with a ten foot Yeti. - YzermanIsTheMan
Not enough. They would have to 'pay' a team to take him. Absorbing 100% of his contract won't do it. |

To be honest, I'm surprised they made it last year with the our top two centers missing about half the season, not too mention Zeke. |

Well they are well into their 30's....the wrong side of 30. The difference between this scenario and the Yzerman, lIdstrom one...was they had Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Kronwall to build off of.....now....not so much.
Kenny Holland will step down as GM by season's end....he doesnt have the desire to "blow his team up" but another GM will have no problem doing it. |

I just hope you don't cry when Babs is resigned before the training camp.
BTW, this is hilarious. Don't you know Babs loves the veterans?
Not to mention that "compete" and "Leafs" in the same sentence is funny.

Except, you're giving pure speculation. Holland is in a bromance with Babcock, and he should be. Best coach out there. Blashill is the insurance incase Babs decides to leave. I'm with Stargate here, Babcock will resign with the Wings for one more stint after this year. |

The club chose a 1 year deal (it's their prerogative), so Subban can't "walk" after the arbitration deal (assuming they don't work something out before Sunday).
I don't think the Habs are the ones against a long-term deal (I'd imagine they're currently prepared to go 8x9 AAV). I think Meehan wants Subban to take a 1 year deal, expecting the arbitrator to go with their number or very close, and then go for an even bigger contract when the cap goes up.
Bergevin has to manage his cap going forward. He's got Galchenyuk and Gallagher to re-sign next year and I think he wants to make a trade for a top-6 forward, something for which he'll need cap space. This year's cap did not rise as much as anticipated, which put the Habs (and probably a dozen other teams) in something of a bind.
Ideally, the Habs (if there is a big trade on the horizon) would probably like the Subban cap hit to wait until 2 years from now (by which time the cap will be considerably higher) to kick in, but the danger in that is A) Subban could walk in 2 years and B) if he doesn't walk, he'll just get a bigger piece of the pie (he's not done improving).
Another factor (likely minor, but not negligible) is Therrien. I'm not sure Subban relishes the idea of Therrien as his coach for the next four years--not without some assurances from upper management that there'll be no more "messages" (benching and reduced ice time) going forward.
I'd have offered Subban 8x9 back in June (right after they were eliminated). Probably would have jumped on that at the time. But Meehan likely counselled him to watch the money spent on UFA defencemen of less calibre (the signings in Washington are instructive here) and let him work with those inflated numbers during negotiations. I know Subban is not a UFA (before some dolt points it out), but he's clearly better than any that was on offer, so the comparisons remain valid. If Orpik is worth over 5, then Subban is worth 10. |

He's not the worst, nor do I see him a troll. He just has a view point that Holland and Babcock will leave Detroit. Nothing wrong with that. If he had said "Babs is leaving cause Detroit is terrible and Holland is ruining the Wings from the inside before jumping ship" I'd call him a troll. |

Are you comparing Nyquist and Tatar to a young Datsyuk and Zetterberg?? come on, every single Red Wing fan will put you in you place.
For the record, Im not a troll. JUst saying it how it is nothing more. |

Give Holland a drafting job.. or President of the Wings. something ceremonial. Let Lidstrom have the reins. |
