Man. Really interesting interview on 590 with Renaud Lavoie about PK Subban. Doesn't sound like they want him at 7 or 8 million. I find that outrageous. Can we trade two of our 4 mil dudes for him? They're offering him Mark Streit money.

Don't we have a spare Andrew MacDonald or Luke Schenn laying around we could give them?

It also wouldn't get us under the cap. Subban wants $8m+.

They would probably demand Coburn + BSchenn + Morin.

- Feanor

Sounds about right.

The Habs are going to demand SOMETHING at this point. They know he's gone.

No, we need all the ex-Islander and Leaf d-men we can get our hands on.

you wouldn't do that deal? i doubt it would get even a call back from MTL.
- wilsonecho91

It's a good deal no doubt and you're right, it's under value. I just don't want to move any of our prospects right now. We haven't had any in so long I want to see what they become.

They both put forth one year deals. The qualifying offer the following year will probably earn him in excess of 15 mil over two. He becomes an RFA after that. He gets 10 mil per then unless he gets hurt.

Would need to include some other players depending on how much Subban would sign for.

I think the Habs would be keying in on Couturier and Morin plus another 1 or 2 significant assets. Would be a test for Hextall to see if he stays his course.

Subban would cost something like Coots Macdonald Morin and a pick. He's near Weber value now.

Akeson and a third. They think he's worth the same as Mark Streit and we got him for less than that.

I thought, since it was arbitration, that he becomes a UFA after this contract (whatever it happens to be)?

I confess, I'm not a CBA/Capgeek guru.

It's interesting to think what it would take to get a deal for Subban done, but my belief is that such a move isn't even on Hexy's radar.

Grossmann, MacD, Lecavalier and a 2nd

Yep plus MTL would love our Frenchies (mornin and coots).
Apparently they called wanting to trade for Morin at his drafting (I have no source for this but thought I remembered hearing it)

I'd do Morin, Striet, Vinny, 1st, B prospect like Cousins + other less asset

I'm sure they would demand Coots though which I would not include unless it was something very lopsided (I over value cooter like a mo fo):

Coots, Vinny, Grossman, 1st

It has nothing to do with Arbitration, it's seasons served/age. 7 seasons or 27 I believe.

If Subban becomes available it will be tough for any GM in the league not to explore it. Hextall mentioned you have to trade serveral assets for a top defensemen.

I think you can still make a good deal(see Pronger) but have to be careful what assets you give up. Quantity over Quality would be my preference.

I would hate to see assets like Couturier and Morin moved, but Subban's value would be sky high and if I'm Montreal trading him, I'm sticking to my guns.

Thanks!

So...if PK is 25 now and will be 26 in May, it's still conceivable that he just signs a couple of 1 year deals and becomes a UFA at 27, correct?

I'll trade Lupul for Subban right now!

Vinny and Streit won't get it done. Theyll want younger assets.

I know but cap has to equal out.

Pronger cost 2 1st, top six forward and a young 1st round D man.
Streit and Vinny are just to even the cap numbers then add the above or equivalent.

Edit: with my thinking it would be:

Vinny, Streit, 2 1st, Morin, Read?

Edit edit: If you remove Read I might actually do that. Of course Subban's contract situation needs to be resolved. With a one year deal I'm not sure he has as much value since he could bail if he wanted after the preceding season.

Looking back, the price for Pronger with the Flyer's current roster and system would look something like this.

Vinny L, Sanheim and the next 2015/2016 1st round picks. Keeping in mind Lupul was a much younger salary dump. Too much or too little for Subban?

My memory may be off, but wasn't MTL the team that was trying to trade up in that draft to take Morin?

I do that but Streit would need to be added to cancel out cap hit. I also think they would want one our French Canadians
