MacDonald is just one of those players where the possession metrics don't jibe with what I actually see with my own eyes.

I agree. I've never understood how his advanced stats are so bad. Although I'll admit I don't know the first thing about or care about Corsi or Fenwick or whatever. I watch hockey to be entertained not to feel like I'm back in math class. He seems like a really solid player from the eye test and I'm happy to have him.

Giroux, Voracek, BSchenn and Wayne Simmonds all had a higher CF% playing with Raffl than they did playing with Hartnell.

I look at it like this. Unless something huge happens, our chances of winning the cup are 0.00001%.

We're the Washington Capitals at this point.

We should have either rebuilt or retooled. Not tried to do both.

Our defense will be another year older this year. Our core players another year older and another year closer to UFA (and bigger pay days in some circumstances).

Hextall at least see's the long game. Which is refreshing.

What would you have suggested they had done?

If I was going to go full Corsi I would be campaigning to have Raffl be the 1LW. But you never go full Corsi.

Nice looking car. Not a fan of full electric cars though. I'd rather give money to Oil Companies than Duke Energy or whatever you guys have up there for electricity.

Retooled or rebuilt. I thought I was clear on that.

My eyes also told me this. Which, once again, makes the AMac metrics so strange to me.

A 2nd pair defenseman, being deployed like a top pair #1 defenseman, over extended on a bad possession team, isn't going to have good numbers.

I guess I need to re-calibrate my expectations of Raffl, on some level.

Maybe he can hang on a top 6 line, but given his pedigree in coming from a second rate Swedish league, I guess I wasn't expecting very much (although, I was NOT one of the ones making Andreas Nodl or Miko Pyorala jokes....I stick strictly to Jason Akeson jokes).

Ideally, Raffl would play in the bottom 6, but if they need him up in the top 6....I guess you do what you have to do.

Corsi only measures shots directed towards the net. Raffl had trouble directing shots into the net.

The Rafll numbers shouldn't be so surprising. We all know he's a good skater & forechecker, responsible defensively, and a decent passer. His main drawback is a lack of finishing ability, but that doesn't matter for CF%. 10 shots that miss the net are better than two shots that beat the goalie when it comes to Corsi.

If his shot doesn't evolve he'll be a bottom 6 guy. He's a bottom 6 guy right now.

If Raffl is in your top 6, something is wrong.

Yep.

He's fine as a fill in on a temp basis, but if he's a top 6 on the team, then we've got issues.

Oh, there are issues. Check out the song ESPN - or at least their music 'expert' - picked for the Flyers... (not that I'm condoning giving this guy page hits...it's I Don't Care Anymore by Phil Collins. "Are they even trying to be good? Something just doesn't feel right about this team.")

Man. Really interesting interview on 590 with Renaud Lavoie about PK Subban. Doesn't sound like they want him at 7 or 8 million. I find that outrageous. Can we trade two of our 4 mil dudes for him? They're offering him Mark Streit money.

I'll keep Morin thanks. I'd be willing to move any of our roster D and Read/Schenn for him though.

It also wouldn't get us under the cap. Subban wants $8m+.

They would probably demand Coburn + BSchenn + Morin.

Would need to include some other players depending on how much Subban would sign for.
