So you're saying sign him to a one year deal for 7M this year, and then a multi year deal for 8-9 during the season?

For those how haven't seen this, I can see why Meltzer is optimistic this guy can make an impact in the NHL

That song on the video is awesome! Who sings it?

He's going to find out very soon in the NHL, you ain't gonna have time to wind up that slapper

Lies. Goals matter. Defense only happens when players block shots.

I thought if the team didnt accept the figure he could walk but not certain how it would be with a younger player who is an RFA not a UFA. I think he is obligated to accept it or sit out a season or two.

If the Habs walk away from the award (won't happen), PK becomes a UFA.

PK can't walk away from the award himself.

I don't believe there are any restrictions on trading a player after they are awarded a contract.

The Habs can trade PK if they find the award outrageous.

I'm mildly surprised the Habs picked a one year award. if the hearing created hard feelings, it's less time to heal wounds.

Either way, you want to avoid hearings. You're letting a third party decide your payroll. That's not ideal

Yep. Nick Grossmann is a guaranteed winner of the first annual Kevin Lowe award for defensive studliness

They chose a 1 yr so he will be an RFA next year and not a UFA at the end of the contract. If they went 2 yrs he is more likely gone, 1 yr means they get to do it all over again next year if they like. His trade value is also higher this way if they wNted to go that route.

so what would you give up for PK?
- Crimsoninja

For me, it has to involve moving 2 of these contracts: VL, Streit, Grossman, AMac, RJ. And then adding a bunch of quality assets like 1st rounders and top prospects to make the deal worth it for MTL. Both for short term and long term cap implications. Adding a 8-9M long term contract on top of what we currently have is a noose IMHO. No matter how nice the noose is, we will be seriously handicapped to resign our young core with all of the above long term expensive contracts. It just isn't worth IMHO without ridding ourselves of some heavy contracts. Not to mention we will have to add 8-9M this year to an already small amount of cap space. That goes for any deal this summer, which makes dealing very tricky if not impossible for the Flyers. Just my 2 cents.

If it was me, I'd rather avoid the arbitration process altogether next year. If he gets tired of getting lowballed, he might hit UFA in two years and have zero interest in staying in Montreal.
