Subban is going to Vancouver then they'll get Malcolm from Boston and the Subban brothers will be together because that's all that matters

the Vancouver Subban is tiny and looks like he regressed this past season in juniors. He doesn't seem like a sure NHLer whatsoever.

Oh boy! At least the only case to go to arbitration this year is a big one? I am real curious to see how this one comes out, although I expect that it will be two years in the mid-7s.

Really hard to peg what Staal is worth and what you're willing to pay him

A few years back he was rock solid before his eye injury.

He just hasnt been quite right since.

Still very good and a legit 2/3 dman, but you could argue he was on path to possibly be a #1 if he panned out right

If not for 2 long term grueling injuries, the concussion from the hit from his brother in 2011 & the puck in the eye in March 2013.

Staal will be able to command $6 million per on the open market, assuming that he doesn't have any serious health setbacks this years. With that said, the Rangers might be able to get him to sign in the Girardi range $5.5 million per, if they try to get something done now, because there is a certain security for a player, especially one with significant injury issues, to get locked in long term and not have to worry about what the next season may bring.

Personally, I want the Rangers to re-sign Staal, because he is a significant part of a core three on the backline. If they need to shave some money to do it, I would much prefer that they find a trade for Klein eventually, who is a real solid defender, but someone that the Rangers are paying $2.9 million a year to play on the third pair. If you could replace him with a guy on entry level deal, you can save $2 million right there. Again, not advocating trading Klein, but I would prefer that if the extra money is necessary to get Staal done.

Only small issue I have with Staal is his foot speed, don't know if he can work on that or its just the way it is. Because as great as he was in the Pitt & Flyers series, his foot speed was exposed against the quicker Habs team. Still think he will be getting a 5.75-6 contract.

Tim Sestito was the 1st star, if that isn't the ultimate shat on corsi moment, apparently corsi is for fantasy camp only

Honestly, I still view him as a solid number 2 defender type. I don't think his play has dropped off that badly, but he has dropped to the second pair because McDonagh has just passed him. And I think that would have happened irrespective of injury. You put him on several other teams and he is a first pair defender, IMO.

MTL and Subban still free to negotiate a long-term contract up until the arbitrator's ruling comes down. But once ruling is down, that's it.

Agree Pete & like you said even if neither injury happened, but specifically the first one cause that's what led the Rangers to have to move Mac up to the first D pair Mac was gonna show he was a top tier defensemen eventually, just maybe not that 2011-12 season when it happened.

I was digging around some other Corsi stuff and the whole Staal was a drag on Stralman's Corsi thing is the exact same thing as saying that Doughty was a drag on Muzzin's Corsi. Doughty's CF% was lower away from Muzzin and Muzzin's was higher away from Doughty. I guess Muzzin is the true defender on that pairing and Doughty is only successful because of Muzzin?
