the last Islander team to win a playoff series became old enough to legally drink and they are all still hungover from the big celebration
- jimbro83

You see it on facebook, just some of the most ignorant sons-a-female doges around, clamor all they want about 4 in a row, what they've done for the last 21 years is epic, they consider the Rangers season to be equal to theirs because despite making the finals we both didn't win the Cup, they need therapy, I could go on for hours

Fans of all teams are generally heaping piles of human stool, fans of your favorite teams (and mine) included.

I had an Islander fan say something loco like that recently too. And this is a 45 yr old die hard, knowledgable fan. "If you don't win the Cup, you fail, seasons a disappointment, whether you're in the Finals or the worst team in the league." ok, I lost all respect for this guy after this. It was all because I said I was proud of the Rangers season, it was a huge success.

Ranger fans are especially intelligent. This post proves it.

Sour grapes. Of course if the islanders made it to the finals that same guy would be ecstatic.

well, all you have to do is educate them on the 1975-79 Islanders. They never won the Cup but played about 60 playoff games during that time and every single won of them would tell you they learned how to become a champion during those seasons. Not one of them would look back on them and say they were worthless.

I've been reading up on the caps and I'm not gonna lie I think theyre going to surprise some people.Ovi, backstrom, kuznetsov, laich, johansson, and burakovsky is a great top 6. Brouwer, fehr, chimera, ward, and wilson are all really good bottom 6 players. Their defense of niskanen, green, calrson, alzner, and orpik provide a decently deep blueline. Holtby will be the x factor.

Trotz is a hell of a coach. I expect them to clinch the 3rd spot in the metro if not 2nd.

It's (hopefully) building block years to future championships. Except for the exception of the out of nowhere teams that come & go most teams in all sports climb the ladder slowly & have to experience some dissapointments along the way.

there is this theory that the Rangers were just one of these lucky teams to get to the finals that happens every once in awhile which is just utter B.S.

It's been building awhile. Only one year have they missed the playoffs since the first lockout, best record in East 2011-12, 6 playoff series wins now the last 3 years.

It wasn't a fluke that's for sure, hopefully the final was yet another building block.

I know the 79 loss to the Rangers was killer to Islander fans at that time, they were clearly the favorite & the better team that yr, also in 78 they lost a tough series to Toronto I think? A series most expected them to win too.

this rumor was being passed around on twitter last night. Who knows if there is any credibility, but, I don't think there is any doubt the Rangers will put out the full court press for Hayes in a couple of weeks regardless:

No brainer! I mentioned in Jan's blog after signing Brassard that rather than sign Carcillo, I would save the money and go after Hayes on Aug 16th. It's equivalent to recouping a first round pick we gave up for MSL. Kreider had better be helping!

I agree with you. I think the Caps are going to be a real dangerous team. Deep and talented upfront and on the blue line. Could see yet another Caps-Rangers series.

ugggghhhh, you just can't have a simple hockey discussion with any of the Islander guys anymore on this blog without them turning it into a fight. Which is fine.

we do need to realize tha if we sign him he is going to have to play, if so i would go with MSL on the third simply because we then have incredible depth.

if so i predict a breakout season for miller like shwartz or nyquist or johansen had. and i don't get the people who say we lost depth, i think we got a lot better

I still think it is a pipe dream that Hayes signs with the Rangers. He wants to go somewhere where he will be guaranteed minutes right away. While the Rangers would offer him a chance to compete for a spot, they won't hand the kid anything on a silver platter. I don't like this kids attitude. Who the hell wouldn't want to join a great organization like Chicago?

Well he can probably call himself the best blueliner on the Oilers right now. That's got to be something right?

I have zero issue with Hayes wanting to play now. He has the oppuritunity to move and increase his chances at a pay day. If you were working at a business with no chance of advancement in the next few years why would stay there?

He doesn't have a contract yet so how can you advance at a job you don't have yet? I see it as he wants a promotion before he even was hired.

Look I wouldn't mind if he signs with the Rangers, I have nothing wrong with adding depth. I just don't like the kids attitude.
