Would you swap Letang/Sutter for Subban/3rd Pick assuming PK would re-sign for 8 years, $64-68M? - Barnaby36
I love Letang and hate Subban so I'm skewed haha. If Subban was on our team though I'm sure I would like him.
I would probably do this because even though its pretty much a lateral move ...Subbans health is less risky than Letangs.
...right now I'm still stuck on the Pouliot for Kuznetzov deal...that would have a better effect than that Letang for Subban blockbuster, imo |

You're gonna pay 8.5 for PK, vs 7.2 for Letang, not worth it IMO with 87 and 71 on the team. |

I hear ya. I don't think I'd do that trade either but wouldn't be too mad if it happened. I'm a big Letang fan and hate PK but he can play the game for sure.
Sign Sutter already or trade his ass to Winnipeg.
As for the Pouliot for Kuznetsov deal I'd do that and run. We have to give up to get something good in return. |

Interesting inside take from DK --
Anyone who thought the Capitals overpaid for Matt Niskanen, Brooks Orpik or both, know this: Both were offered more money by other teams, Niskanen by the Red Wings, Orpik by the Avalanche. The common denominator in bringing them together in Washington was Todd Reirden, their defensive coach in Pittsburgh. Really popular figure with all those guys. Worked his tail off.
Know who will miss Reirden most? Kris Letang. - YouMeAndDupuis9
I disagree with Kris Letang missing Reirden. The guy who miss Reirden the most will be Paul Martin. |

Well ok, you still need to fill Sutter's spot and a top 6 spot. I would rather move Martin and Scuds off the books. |

Kris: "Todd, how do I play defense"
Todd: "Give me your hair and I'll tell you" |

So Letang @ $7.25M sounds better than PK Subban @ $8.5M or Phaneuf @ $7.0M |

Yes. Subban at 8m is better than Letang at 7.2m. |

There is no way the Capitals are trading Kuznetzov to us. That guy is awesome. |

Wouldn't be surprised.....but now he'll have the company of Ehrhoff, a good PP QB.

:-(
Pouliot was the 8th overall pick and has nothing but improved his value since the draft. You don't think the Caps would consider it? Clearly they are desperate for D after what they signed Orpik and Nisky. Maybe we add something? I would try like hell to make it happen. |

Well I wouldnt trade him. He is really, REALLY good... If I were rating Russian forwards it would go:
Ovechkin
Malkin
Datsyuk
Kuznetzov
I know I know OV sucks, but I still think he is the best Russian player. |

Wtf?? Ovi? No way. I'd go with Malkin and Datsyuk before picking him. |

If I were starting a team and could have any one Russian I would take OV. Datsyuk if he were younger.
Malkin and OV are tough to choose between, I like OVs physicality, which is why I'd choose him. |

I mean OV doesn't even try to skate into the defensive zone, it's embarrassing.
If I HAD to take a Russian on my team it would be Datsyuk followed by Malkin. Not saying OV doesn't have any talent, he is arguably the most talented in the game, he just doesn't give a crap (see last 2 Olympics). If I was a GM I would have 0 Russians on my team. Even Malkin looks lazy pretty often. |

Then I will gladly give you 1st pick on Russian forwards. Hell, EVERYONE, will give you first pick on Russian forwards, and laugh at you while we go into the postseason.
He is one of the WORST defensive liabilities in the NHL. I don't care how many goals he can score, if having him will force your team to take at least 30 more due to him alone. That is not worth 8+ mil, thats worth kicking his lazy ass back into the minor leagues. |

I agree he is near worthless in his own end, so you need to get him a defensive centerman to cover for him. Toews and Ovechkin would be pretty sweet.... and it was possible for us to have both those guys and crosby.
I dont think Malkin is much better in the dzone, he just plays center which positionally brings you back further, wingers can cherry pick its harder for centers.
and the Caps didnt miss the playoffs because of OV, they missed because they're terrible. |
