ChrisMS, what's the highest salary retention in a Scuderi trade you'd be okay with?
- Morris

I'd take $1M....

Pirates acquire Ben Zobrist from Tampa Bay (.271, 9HR, 31RBI).

Thoughts?

personally? just about all. a elc defenseman would be roughly 1 mil. they would be better played than scuds. so persoanlly I'd unload him keeping half or a little more. its not my money and if it was I wouldn't keep any salary at this point. he might bounce back, be worth close to his salary, he might increase his value enough to trade, he might retire, he might have a career ending injury, he might get hit by a meteor. i would wait and see, like the owners re doing right now.

Silly man, the Pirates don't actually spend money to improve their team. They just get their name out there as trying so they can say they gave it the old college try.

Lets play a little over/under for this season. Feel free to make it interesting and write your actual goal prediction.

Spaling - over/under 15 goals?

Comeau - over/under 15 goals?

Sutter - over/under 15 goals?

Downie - over/under 15 goals?

I would say all but Sutter are under 15, but I have Spaling coming very close in the 12-15 range. I don't think Downie or Comeau break a dozen this season, but they can still be very production in their role. I am actually in the belief that Sutter will have a 20 goal season this year with better and more consistent wingers.

I feel like everyone wants the entire bottom 6 roster to score 15-20 and the top 6 to be 30+. It's just not reasonable to think that. The 4th line needs to control the puck, and try and get offensive zone starts. 3rd line, control and cycle in the O zone, top 6, score goals.

Keeping half his salary? Ummm... WHY? A normal buyout would save more that way. And its not like we are going to get much for him even keeping a chunk of his salary.

1 Mil is obviously the max we'd keep for him, since the buyout would be 1.05 mil.

Now, if somehow a team would offer something... as an a 4th or 5th round pick if we'd keep 1.5 mil... I'd consider it. But dumping him and keeping 1 mil should get us just a 7th rounder.

How about 4 of the 6 bottom six players not be negative plus minus players? I won't get into possession stats, too much to get nit picky over... but if over half of the bottom 6 doesn't hurt the team more than they help, I think that should get not too many complaints... and not a completely unrealistic goal.

If you want them to win possession... thats unrealistic, but even losing possession battles, if they help to keep it out of the net, that should be fine on most teams.

Well that's really not my intentions of putting everyone at 15. But everyone of the guys on that list has 20 goal potential (or scored 20 in their past). Lots of different scenarios and line combinations..Downie could be on the 1st, etc.

Thats all....nothing else really going on today haha.

Spaling - over/under 15 goals? Under, 14

Downie - over/under 15 goals? Over, 24

I emboldened my predictions.

I don't think Sutter will be on the team, though. I think he'll be moved for a more veteran type guy like Marleau. Or at least I hope to all the gods and men that he will.

I think Spaling will score 14 goals on the third line and have a positive Corsi+/- rating for 2.2M. I'm pretty shocked at the reaction of this thread about Spaling's cap hit since it is generally held here that it would be alright if Pascal Dupuis slotted in at the exact same position and would likely yield similar point figures and possession numbers at $3.75M, plus an additional year plus trade clause.

So.......

Will Adams give up #27 to Hörnqvist? If not which # do you think he'll wear.

Spaling will get #13 for sure. Comeau won't have the chance to get #14 nor #57 (Kunitz, Goc)

The day is THAT boring

Yeah ppl are up in arms over 2.2 for a 3rd liner in his mid 20's with more potential. But Paying Dupes a 3rd liner in his mid 30's after knee surgery for 3 more yrs at 3.75 is good value? Oh wait he had a good season 2 yrs ago when the season what shortened, never mind how that helped a lot of players inflate their #'s/

From day one Dupuis delivered for us. He got paid less than he deserved for at least 3-4 years. It's a different situation IMO. Apples and Oranges.

Adams will not. He's got tenure with this team, a few Cup rings, and a Harvard-level sense of what he's worth. I wouldn't give up my number were I him, either.

I hope that Hornqvist will wear either of 96, 93, or 8. He is probably going to wear 72, which I hate because it reminds me of the hollowed-out, sun-bleached, bootless shadow of Alex Kovalev who wore that number recently for the Penguins. He's still my favorite.

Hornqvist will get 27 when Adams gets waived. After hearing some of the reports on his locker room attitude, I hope they send him packing at training camp.....before preferably.

Really as a bottom 6 from 08-11 he was paid 1.4, then a 2 yr deal at 1.5. I think that's completely for a bottom 6 during that era. For his age and what he brings I think the contract is not that good. He is only on the top line because 87 and 71 take up so much cap. I would love him on the 3rd.

a buy out is 2/3's right? wouldn't save the owners money buying him out. keeping 1.75 would allow a l mil man to step in and save us 1 mil. sounds reasonable.
