he's been top 5 in vezina voting twice, and was a finalist once, and would have probably won it running away in the lockout year if he hadn't of missed 10 or so games.
i don't think he belongs in the top 10, but he's a good goalie.
i'm not sure how varlamov isn't on the top 10 list. he's proved AT LEAST as much, if not more, than bishop....and is easily ahead of lehtonen and niemi, IMO. - sensarmy_11
ya i was thinking2 great seasons... but I think he's on the downward. can't see him being a standout in the years to come, and I thik Lehner will surpass him in OTT sooner than later |

Yes, and yes: Niemi says NO!! - John Jaeckel
Niemi - won one Cup - and he was arguably not all that good against Philadelphia - in the four years since he's been with SJ, has made the conference finals only once.
Just questioning the "proven winner" part - one Cup, but not much else. |

Where I'm at, vastly underrated by most IMO
Varlamov was/is a strong consideration - John Jaeckel
i agree that anderson is very underrated......he had a rough year last season, albeit playing in front of a VERY bad defense.
i still don't think he's top 10 |

Question all you want. He was phenomenal for the Sharks in the playoffs in 2011, carried them at times. And he was very, very good for the Hawks in 2010. Don't kid yourself.
He's one of those guys, if I need a goalie for one night to win a big game, I take him. It's also part of why I love Anderson, and many of these guys on the list. Competitors.
Nemo's career numbers (regular season)
277 GP 159-77 .916/2.35 27 SO
Pretty strong. Playoff numbers not as good, and he hasn't been as good in the playoffs the last couple of years for sure. |

Henrik Lundqvist can't be ranked #1. I personally would but the lack of a Stanley cup his resume will hinder him.
Quick
Tuukka
Lundqvist
Price
Rinne
Bobrovsky
Lehtonen
Schneider
Varlamov
Bishop - tomburton99
Hasek was the best goalie in the league between the years of 1997-2001. No cups for him but that didn't take away from his individual greatness.
Same can be said for Lundqvist. No cups on his resume doesn't mean he failed his team and was the cause of his team not winning a title. |

I like Lethonen but he's not a top 10 goalie. I would have Schneider up higher on the list too, now that he's the clear #1 he'll shine in New Jersey. |

Decent list, tough to rank the top goalies right now once you get to the 6-10 range.
But I agree wtih some of the posts here, if you have Bishop on the list, you need to have Varly. Both have the same track record/length of playing at that high level.
I know Miller had a bad run in St Louis, but how he is not on that list? I would have him over Niemi or Lehtonen. |

An all time goalie list with Brodeur in the 5 spot!! Ha ha ha....He owns all the goaltending records that matter. Where do you come up with this stuff?? Then Niemi and Shneider in the now list......If that's the case, the league is suffering to get better goaltending.. - _diatribe_
Debatable for sure. Do you have to be a utensil? |

Wont argue too much, but I think Bishop needs another year before anyone can put him in a top 10
He could turn into Steve Mason 2.0 overnight |

I think the best way to determine the "best 10 currently" would be to take the save % from the last 2 years, then give guys credit for making it far in the playoffs or winning cups. - Erik6Karlsson5
Best way is really just simply to watch. There are goalies that are going to win you tons of regular season games, goalies that are going to win you championships by hitting that second gear when it matters, stats can't really measure that. Look at Quick for example, pretty pedestrian regular season at best, at times shaky in the playoffs (especially first two games which really was a team collapse that killed his stats) but when it mattered, he made the saves and he shut the door. He was lights out in elimination games, in the finals he was lights out, he has that ability when the spotlight shines it's hottest to lock it down, probably better than any other netminder. With the LA defense the quality of shots he faces are usually higher percentage shots as well. However stars won't tell you that, you need to watch. It what makes listing the top 5 or 10 guys that hard, and why there's always so much disagreement. |

But he has 21 assists, that is more points than any other goalie playing.

Bottom line is Niemi's playoff numbers are pedestrian at BEST
Career .907 playoff sv pct and 2.74 GAA
Has only had one postseason where his sv pct was .915 or above (and it wasnt the cup year when he posted a .910) |

This is why I despise Quick in fantasy hockey. Sure he gets you a few more shutouts, but other weeks he will literally kill your numbers. No consistency game to game it seems.

John Jaeckel: Top 10 Goalies, Now And All-Time - John Jaeckel
Sorry, John, but any list of top 10 goalies of all time must include George Hainsworth.
No other goalie has altered the game as much as him. He's the reason they allowed the forward pass. |

I like Bishop. But he should not be on the top 10 current list yet.
He needs to have at least 1 full year of great play (without missing a bunch of games from injury) as a starter. And some playoff experience as well before getting into the top 10.
He had a top ten season. Not a top ten goalie......Yet. |

He hasn't failed, I know that. Without him the Rangers are a fringe playoff team at best. But to the general public that argument of no cups will trump any number of wins, GAA and SP. |

where in Bernier on that list |

I love Hank but I'd put him at 2 behind Quick. Quick outplayed him in the finals is the main reason for that. It's more of a 1A and 1B kind of ranking between them. |

Henrik is no doubt a stud
that being said, my take on him is he will always be a goalie that will steal games here and there and will keep his team in every series with a chance to win
BUT, he has never had the killer instinct where he just went off and robbed the other team blind and won a championship nearly by himself, a-la a JS Giguere, Jonathan Quick, Cam Ward, or Patrick Roy |

As an unbiased fan who had Devin Dubnyk between the pipes for the last while (why isn't he on this list ), I'd take Carey Price as my goaltender over everyone on that list. Put him in Boston, Nashville, LA, etc, I think you see his numbers become even better.
Not that this list is out to lunch or anything, definitely a legitimate way to rank the goalies now.
I also bet you see Bernier creep into this list next year.

Well done ! I would make some minor changes but overall right on target. |
