It's $5.95 total, not per season. - DarthKane
Ok - not a big increase for him then (up from $2.3 AAV). |

TSN (and others) say $11.9 for two years.

He's only 29 now - 31 in two summers, when he becomes UFA. Maybe his presumed concussion issues force him to retire - as Mr. Paul just said - but if not - just getting into what many here keep saying is prime time for a defenseman - and in a rising cap market.
Not likely he'll sign for what he's making now.
Will the Hawks be able to resign him next summer - or will he be one of the moves to get under the cap to accommodate the twins new contract? - StLBravesFan
I can see him re-upping with the 'Hawks @ 4 yrs $34M, or 5 yrs $41M. If the cap really explodes the next two years then the AAV will be north of $9M for him. |

Financial terms were not disclosed, but it is worth $5.95 million per season, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com. I m seeing this on NHL.com |

I stand corrected. That's a lot of money for a guy with only one good NHL season. He'd never won more than 10 games in a season before last year. |

They'd be better off with the same money for a longer term. If he's going to be what people think, he will be looking for $8 or $9 in three years.
Crawford's contract will be eminently tradeable in three-four-five years. |

$6 million is the going rate for a #1 goalie and Crawford has a Cup so I think he could be traded at any time. That being said, I hope Stan holds on to Crawdaddy. |

I hope Stan gets some goalies into the system so that Crawford is pushed a little and the Hawks don't have it all tied up in one package. |

I agree. If we get a 2nd for Hayes we'll have 9 draft picks in 2015 including 3 within the first 2 rounds. Lately Stan's been taking goalies in the later rounds of the draft but I think it's time he drafts one in the first 2-3 rounds. |

Here. you give Bowman and the Hawk FO major props. - John Jaeckel
In all fairness, DK's cap hit would not be as low as it is under the new CBA had said CBA been in effect in 2009 when his deal was signed. Yes the cap was lower, yes he didn't win a Norris yet, or two cups. If Duncs deal were to be post-new CBA, you can guarantee a $9M+ AAV. So some simple arithmetic tells me 2/19/88 would cost $30M AAV.
Be that as it may, we can still thank SB for Duncs $5.38M cap hit. |

If he's going to be on the top 10 list he might as well be paid for it. |

You can't blame the Canadians for throwing the money his way, he is their best skater. High end players are getting what is due to them. If you are going to take care of them, GM's (armchair and otherwise) you have to be very leary of the Bolland like contracts and make some steals like DK.
It seems to me, the new cap era will ultimately cause teams to have an upper class (the super rich-if they can obtain them) the lower class (entry level/and or bench warmers) and lower middle class (under paid 4-8 year vets) or with the lack of high end talent a upper middle class (over paid - good/average performance playes) and a mix of lesser classes. Bottom line is a team may not be able to support more than three top skaters.
Which also brings me to a question, in fantasy hockey leagues is there cap constraints? I've never really joined one but have been considering it for fun. |
