I disagree.

Simpson did not look great at all last season, and Dent couldn't want to yank him every chance he got. Carruth hasn't seen much action beyond the ECHL level. Darling has never seen NHL action, but put up some decent numbers in Milwaukee last season.

As much as I don't really care for Dan Ellis, I wouldn't mind having him in Rockford as an insurance policy in case Crawford and Raanta are both on the shelf at the same time. Someone with some NHL experience.

I really thought this may be the year the Hawks draft a goalie in the first few rounds.... I know they drafted some tall Russian late but will he even play here? After Crow. they just seem to have decided developing a GT from the draft isn't a priority.

They certainly aren't developing Raanta - at least not the way he was used by Q when Crow could play last year. Is his deal a 2 way this year? Can he be sent down without clearing waivers?

Only a matter of time, I suppose.

Keith's deal looks good every time a Doughty, Weber, and/or Subban sign for 8 million a year.

Does eight million a year inspire P K Subban to play a better defensive game?

The Habs now pay Markov & Subban about what the hawks pay Keith Seabrook and Hammer

I would've let the arbitration play out and then trade him. $9 for D-man who doesn't play D is too much.

Seabrook but I very much doubt he is playing in 3 years .

He looks like he is having post concussion issues at times . He was a rookie in 05-06 . 3 years from now will be his 11th year . I think when Seabrook's contract is done he retires. He's taken a lot of punishment .

He signs for equal or less than what he's making now, or he's likely gone.

Not a fair comparison though. Two totally different types of players, at totally different stages of their careers.

Yeah, there were advocates for seabrook over Subban on the Olympic team so it had a rounded defensive side to the roster.

Ummm, yeah, Seabs or some body probably gone.

In two years if none of the Rockford defenseman are ready you start firing organization staff.

Yeah, Bowman's has been pretty good and targeting the right early re-ups and getting reasonable deals done.

Now if they get Saad, Krugs, Ben Smith, Andrew Shaw, etc. redone and lose only "a Seabrook" that's really good business.

He's only 29 now - 31 in two summers, when he becomes UFA. Maybe his presumed concussion issues force him to retire - as Mr. Paul just said - but if not - just getting into what many here keep saying is prime time for a defenseman - and in a rising cap market.

Not likely he'll sign for what he's making now.

Will the Hawks be able to resign him next summer - or will he be one of the moves to get under the cap to accommodate the twins new contract?

Yeah - they may need at least two, certainly three to come thru, possibly four.

As a bruins fan I love this deal!

To me players like Letang, Karlsson, and Subban are luxuries. Fourth foward PP specialists that wouldn't be the number one d man one most of the top teams.

Even Keith, who just won the Norris this last season, he was not on Chicago's shut down pairing. As Keith, just like the letangs and subbans start off in the offensive zone because they are a d zone liability.

I know I'm going to get called jealous, but to be honest, I'm not even a little bit for that money!

Lol. Crazy!

If he is playing at or near his current level (obviously not where he was but still top tier) Seabs could be looking at $6-9m in free agency in 3 years. He will still only be 32-33 years old. Unless the concussions get out of control I think he would go for the money somewhere.

I love Seabrook but I hope the Hawks are not the ones to give him that kind of money at that age. If the Hawks marry older players like the Redwings we will see a replay of their slow fall into non contention.

"D zone liability" is Zdeno Chara in his last 2 playoff series. Pucks thru his legs and teams deliberately dumping pucks into his corner because he can't get away from the forecheck.

He's UFA in 2 years - after the 2015-16 season - when he'll be 31 - eligible for negotiations for a new contract next summer - according to Capgeek.

It's $5.95 total, not per season.
