I'm going to jump into a conversation I haven't followed about a topic I don't know much about and offer my very brief analysis...

Perhaps whoever made the decision preferred the risk of bringing the virus here and containing it as opposed to leaving it wherever it was and risking it spreading from there. One virus, one airport, potential pandemic.

Word.

I work in a hospital.

People can still contract something in a hazmat suit. The possibility is there. It's low, but it's there. There's more of a chance of it spreading in the USA right now than there was yesterday, when nobody infected with the Ebola virus was present.

Why are we arguing about this. This is stupid.

I'm sure the CDC is involved, and it's not just your average patient isolation. I'd rather let the people who know what they're doing handle it, rather than freak out.

They were also Americans, probably has a big factor in bringing them back. One reason the outbreak is happening in Africa is that the governments there are not prepared for it.

I don't think it's really not being prepared for it because there's not much you can do to treat it. I think it's more about being unsanitary.

I think it originates in animal fluid...we as humans are normally clean enough to not get it, but I guess not clean enough over there unfortunately. I don't know too much about the virus though. I've wanted to read up on it.

If it's ebola, I believe the unsanitary part is somewhere inbetween slaughtering and packaging, and (I think) it's usually animal waste mixed in with the food.

Yum.

(But I could be remembering some other disgusting food illness.)

edit: looks like I was describing some other nasty virus. Good times, plenty to go around.

PS - it's all Obama's fault. I'm just saying what we all know.

The places it's in now have been torn apart by civil wars for years, and I believe this is the first time either has had an Ebola outbreak. So yes, they are/were unprepared.

It is believed the outbreak originated from contact with bats. People apparently eat bats there, or had contact with their guano or saliva.
