Somewhat, though I think people underrate Coburn. He plays the hardest minutes of any Flyers dman each and every game. He gets a lot of heat around here, but take him off the team and they would be worse, a lot worse IMO. - BiggE
Is Chris Therien in the HOF or will he ever be? Because thats all he really is. Actually Therien played better defense IMO. And he was a top pair guy.

If they had won a cup with Therien, he'd probably be in. I doubt Joe Watson would be in if they had lost to the Bruins in 74 and Buffalo in 75. It just seems that being a significant player on a cup team carries some weight when it comes to the Hall of Fame.

All I'm saying is once Coburn is no longer a Flyer.... I doubt you hear anyone say "Man I miss that Coburn" he will be an after thought.
thx for the faces of death vids, wolfie - -davies-
Yeah, sorry. I really didn't pick up on that 3rd guy until I watched it more closely. My bad. Let's just assume he came out of it with some broken bones and a big insurance settlement.

Also Cespedes is a butcher in the OF, with a noodle arm.
When Lester re-signs with the Red Sox after the season Beane will look like a court jester. - PLindbergh31
$13 million is purely a MJL hypothetical... IF the cap went up $5 million this season it would have helped everyone out... But it went up $2 million in actuality. I agree with you... It'll be tight. I bet that 'core' as we know it is as good as gone by next off season. - moylander
Last season the Cap was 64.3M. This season it is 69M. You call it a MJL hypothetical, well I'll educate you on something here. Whenever you're dealing with the Cap in the future, it is a hypothetical. Because so much is unknown. With the biggest unknown being what the Upper limit will be for the 15/16 season. Clearly what is being seen here is a common case of cap panic among the fanbase. Yes, Chicago will have to make a move or two. But that's what the Cap is about. They've done it before and the same talk was going on. But yet what happened? They won another Stanley Cup. And it's due to the solid base of Toews, Kane, Keith, and Seabrooke, and a few others. Chicago's cap situation is not nearly as bad as you're making it out to be. And I'll add that I know and understand the cap as well as anybody, if not better.
I wouldn't give the Red Sox too much credit for what they've done today, TBH. You let Jacoby Ellsbury walk, watch your offense -- especially your outfield production -- go straight into the tank, then you don't sign Jon Lester in the offseason or spring training, so you can trade him...for outfield offense.
See, to me, that's poor asset management. Because of course, you don't have to sign Ellsbury, and he doesn't have to sign with you. But you can't not replace the production, be surprised when you struggle to score runs, then realize that you don't have your ace signed AND you're in last place.
They have won multiple World Series, so yes, they get every bit of grace that comes with that. But they have not handled last offseason and this season very well, with respect to asset management.
That throw was sick. Cespedes is a fly ball hitter, he's going to thrive at Fenway Park. I wouldn't be surprised if he hits 40 bombs next year.
I understand the Beane thinking, he's going for it this year. With the Yankees and Red Sox both shells of what they usually are, it's the A's time. Now or never. Lester is a horse, that is a playoff stud. The Athletics have a sick rotation now. They better beat out the Angels for the Division, I'm sure they don't want to mess around with that 1 game play in game. Anything can happen there.
Usually you see prospects traded for rentals, giving up Cespedes was a big price to pay imo.

He's definitely rolling the dice. Great moves by the Sox though.
